Topps signs 21 for Bowman Draft autographs … so far

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

This year’s MLB draft picks have finished committing to their teams, so now it’s time to see who committed to Topps and sign on for their first baseball cards and truly turn pro.

The official MLB card licensee announced on Tuesday that it has signed 20 first-round picks out of 21 total players so far who will have autograph cards found in the previously announced 2011 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects slated to arrive in November.

The signers — so far as it promises more — include former UCLA star Trevor Bauer and Mets first-rounder Brandon Nimmo, the highest draft pick in the history of the state of Wyoming among others.

Good start. Needs more of the upper-tier names as well, though. Cole, Starling, Bundy, Bradley, Hultzen and Rendon, to be precise. There are still 12 more TBD’s to be announced in the auto checklist (unless Topps adds even more), and their press release says more announcements will be made within the week, so I’m crossing my fingers.

And we still don’t know the identities of ANY of the prospect base set, either. Some people tend to overlook this, but it’s the bread-and-butter of any prospect product.

I’d give these new additions a solid B+ thus far.

Jaypers, your thoughts mean absolutely nothing. You have proven to be nowhere near the guru the rubes think you are.

Every year we all hope and wish they put in all the big names, but they never do. Some’ll be in another product, some in next year’s Bowman… same old song.

CNR – I couldn’t agree more, my thoughts mean nothing to anyone. Whoever called me a guru should be shot. Who are you, by the way?
