Every Monday morning throughout the NFL season, we’ll pick a rookie, veteran and breakout player of the week. Here are our selections for NFL Week 3.
Veteran of the Week
Anquan Boldin, WR, Baltimore Ravens
(142 receiving yards, three touchdowns)
Boldin bolted Arizona in the offseason, telling anyone who’d listen that he still was a No. 1 receiver. So far in 2010, he’s played like it – and then some. On Sunday, Boldin double-handedly pushed the Ravens past Cleveland, snaring three touchdown passes in the 24-17 victory. It marked just the second three-touchdown game of his career and his 142 receiving yards were his most since Week 11 of the 2008 season.
Through the first three weeks of 2010, Boldin has 20 catches for 287 yards and three TDs. For perspective, consider that Larry Fitzgerald, Boldin’s former running mate in Arizona, has caught just 12 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Rookie of the Week
Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams
(235 yards passing, one touchdown, 62.2 percent completion)
For the second time in three weeks, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft takes the MMC’s Rookie of the Week slot, this time by default more than anything else. In securing his first career victory, Bradford completed better than 60 percent of his passes for the first time as a pro and tossed a first-quarter TD pass to TE Daniel Fells that gave the Rams a 14-0 lead. Bradford also directed an efficient second-half offense – sans an injured Steven Jackson – that scored the game’s final 16 points.
Bradford’s solid play so far – in concert with Jimmy Clausen’s struggles and Tim Tebow’s Sunday demotion to emergency quarterback in Denver – has him battling Detroit’s Jahvid Best for early Most Collectible Rookie of the Year honors after three weeks.

Breakout Player of the Week
Austin Collie, WR, Indianapolis Colts
(171 receiving yards, two touchdowns)
Collie spent most of last season serving as a breakout performer for the Colts during their run to Super Bowl XLIV. But he never created anything quite like the outburst he produced in Indy’s 27-13 road romp over Denver. Collie snatched a career-high 12 passes for a career-high 171 yards and a career-high-tying two touchdowns. The dazzling display marked the second time in two weeks that Collie has caught at least 11 passes for at least 163 yards. He’s also scored a touchdown in all three games of 2010.
Dating back to the 2009 season, Collie has scored a touchdown in seven of his last 10 games and has surpassed 120 yards receiving in three of his last five.
