Upper Deck announced on Tuesday that it signed a deal with the estate of Pittsburgh Pirates legend Roberto Clemente to include the Hall of Famer in its baseball card products beginning this winter.
The deal will allow the company to include game-used memorabilia and cut signature cards of the deceased 12-time All-Star in its 2009 and 2010 baseball releases.
Clemente cards will first appear in 2009 Ultimate Collection Baseball. Next year, he will appear in at least six baseball sets.
“In looking at names of players to add to our future products, Roberto Clemente is a name that we’re thrilled about bringing to our customers,” said Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck brand manager for baseball, in a news release. “He is a legend in every sense of the word and we anticipate collectors will be ecstatic if they find his cards in Upper Deck Baseball products in 2009 and 2010.”
