Upper Deck Authenticated today began selling the sweat- and history-soaked shirts worn by Tiger Woods during the first three rounds of the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
Woods, who beat Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole playoff last year to claim his 14th major title, has autographed each of the shirts and added a ”2008 U.S. Open” inscription along with a notation detailing which round the shirt was worn.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the shirts — for the princely sums of $30,000 (Round 1), $40,000 (Round 2) and $50,000 – will be donated to the Tiger Woods Foundation.
“As Tiger’s exclusive autographed memorabilia partner, we are excited to offer fans a chance to own three unique pieces of sports history,” says Tim Muret, Vice President of UDA. “Each of the three shirts provides a chapter to the incredible sotry of Tiger’s amazing victor, which, as we found out the next day, was one in which he was literally playing on a broken leg. These three historical pieces will certainly be the ultimate collection showpieces for years to come.”
For more information on this rare collecting opportunity, including a video of Woods signing the shirts and providing a brief recap of each round, visit the Upper Deck Store.
