Arizona's Lute Olson retires — now's the time to track down that key memorabilia

Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson is retiring, which means there will probably be a bit more interest in Olson’s memorabilia in the short term.

The 74-year-old coach’s place in basketball history is secure. After all, he’s coached more than 20 seasons with the Wildcats — and has nearly 600 victories, four Final Four appearances and one NCAA championship.

So, what are his key trading cards?

He signed cards for Press pass in 2002 and 2005 — his lone certified autograph cards — which will probably grab the most interest in online auctions.

But if you already have one of those — or have an autograph obtained in person — the real challenge would be finding his first Arizona card, a team-issue from 1983-84. It’s worth about $15, according to the Beckett Database.

Chris Olds has collected sports cards and memorabilia since 1987. Before coming to Beckett Media, he wrote about the hobby for the Orlando Sentinel on his blog, SportsStuff, and for the San Antonio Express-News and The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News.
