Beckett Needs to Change Their Pricing: A Plea
scollignon Wrote:I love the Beckett web site, there are a few things I would change, but overall I think it's great. The term 'Real Time Pricing' doesn't mean that every card will change multiple time throughout the day like the stock market, I don't think sports cards are that volatile. I would hate to see someone have one good game, then all of his cards go up immediately. There needs to be a progressive trend in their performance to deserve the increase in price, which is from an increase in interest from collectors. Of course there are off the field things that can spark interest in a player; Michael Oher, Gaines Adams, HOF inductees, etc. One of the benefits to the web site versus the book is seeing the price changes before the next issue comes out. I agree, I wouldn't mind seeing an up or down arrow on the web or some indicator that there has been a recent change in price, but you're still ahead of the magazine subscribers. As for taking a lot of pricing off of the site and only looking at high end cards, I disagree completely, in fact, I stopped buying the magazine when Beckett pulled out the $2 or less cards now I use the onlie pricing for everything. If you don't like the web site at all, don't use it, that would be my suggestion. If you don't like paying $200 for a box, then don't. It is a lot like gambling, and always has been. There are different priced products for a reason. If you want to buy a box but not spend all of the money, then go for Score, Topps Kickoff, Upper Deck, First Edition, etc. If you are interested in collecting a player, or players, buy singles off of the bay, or on here. You don't have to pull the card you want, you can always trade for it. I say thank you Beckett!!

Quit hyping up stupid beckett forum/website. Also Beckett is really getting out of hand they charge ridiculous prices on grading a card? Gosh this industry and our economy says it all. I'm suprised Beckett and other card companies are able to stay in business.

Beckett Needs to Change Their Pricing: A Plea
HemiPowered Wrote:I consider the fact you said I was a '"liar" (or potential liar) as an insult. I'm more than happy to debate an issue, but the insult non-sense really serves no purpose. At least where I am from  that is considered an insult. I don't want to get caught up on a tangent because it kind of takes away from what the basic principle of the post intended. I know for a fact there was a time when Bush was out hurt (happens to him quite a bit it seems) and Jones-Drew was set to take over for Fred Taylor- I was tracking the prices of the RBs at the time and he was selling for more. That's it, no big deal. For the time period you mentioned I believe you- end of story, let's move on.

I don't know what you mean by the "highest production does not equate to the highest values" = I believe you mean the lower production doesn't always equate to the higher values"

Nothing I said was intended as an insult and I apologize you took it as such.  I appreciate your clarification of the fact that your knowledge of pricing is in no way current.  As far as my comment on production vs. value - I meant is as it is written:  The highest producing players to not necessarily have the highest valued cards (i.e. - MJD is better than Bush, yet his cards do not sell higher than Bush).

Hey, ngjobber, such profound words (sarcastic). Here's my response...
1. You don't like a forum, don't participate
2. You don't like a web site, don't visit
3. You don't like their pricing, don't subscribe
4. You don't like the grading service, don't use it
5. You don't like the industry, get out

You speak of this thread as if the only posts can be negative and must bash the site. The point of a discussion is to hear multiple views. If we were all bashing the same topic it would be more like a rally (or perhaps a bandwagon); different people = different opinions. I happen to like the site and think it is a great tool to building my collection, and keeping it organized. I know that if I did not like it, I wouldn't feel obligated to use it, I would probably just move on.

I collect most Chicago Bears, Adrian Peterson, Jerome Bettis, Devin Thomas, Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders and Mike Piazza. I am always looking for a trade. Let me know what you got!!!

Oh yeah, Bear Down Chicago Bears!!

Keep spending your money on a hobby that will not hold it's value in the long run but just for enjoyment purposes or brag about what expensive card you so called have that no one really cares about. HOnestly I think card collecting has totally lost many thousands to million cosumers and Beckett & Upper Deck needs to revamp their motto and not flood the market. There are more important things to do than spend thousands of dollars on cracking open a product with a nice rice and the end result you added a few note worthy cards and also adding more junk to your collection. To each his own. I'm not in 2nd grade anymore and I can put my money else for a better investment such as Gambling/ROTH IRA, 401K, money market etc and I'm aware there are no guarentees in that market but I know for a fact I come out ahead in the long run......

I use to collect cards but stopped after seeing the industry get scammed on the prices that BECKETT puts out and people are still spending their money? I would rather save my $150-$200 and spend it else where. I can buy a pair of nice shoes with that dollar amount where I can actually turn some heads but valuing a card where no one will ever see or know seems a bit odd to me. Maybe my mindset has changed compared to when I once was a teenager. Your money is getting taken unless you are getting these cards dirt cheap so consumers are getting the end of the stick and the card shops are scamming consumers and the production company is making a killing. There are more important things in life than a hobby on collecting cards. Did you ever think about exercising having a social life and network? The end result, I will keep my money and spend it elsewhere. The sports card industry is a major Scam and Beckett is laughing at all of us because they know it's an expensive hobby and your money is getting taken.

Beckett Needs to Change Their Pricing: A Plea
I collect Allen Iverson cards just for the Hobby I would say.. Rookies and others...  I collect other players to make money on.... to say that you can't make money in this hobby is just false.... you can make money doing anything... "Its not what you do, its how its done."
