Beckett Baseball: Ask the editor

Beckett Baseball: Ask the editor
Can you please pass on to you it department. Everytime I go to add a card it says that it is in my organize (which it is not). When I click go to my organize I get the alert that there was a problem processing my request and to hit the f5 key (which I did numerous times with no luck). These guys need to fix this site or get fired!!! This is very frustrating!!!

I collected 2 people in 2000 and have all there cards there was not one that was harder to find than the other at the time Adrian Gonzalez was even on the boxes, now it Miguel Cabrera that is worth more in every card that there in the same set, there auto's are not from the same sets I was wondering because they came in set form is there like a number of sets that is known that was put out to see why the Topps auto would be so much more than the Bowman auto or do you think as Gonzalez keeps playing he could get the same type of vaule again because in 2000 he was a $12 card not even half of that now. Just wondering thanks.

zelman7 Wrote:Hey Chris, I just pulled a Jason Heyward 2007 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor (1/5). The card is beautiful and flawless in every way - corners, surface, edges, etc. However, I noticed the bottom of the card - near the serial number - is problematic. The film of the card is peeling. Is this common with refractors, or does this mean that my card is virtually worthless? Or is this a Topps/Bowman manufacturing problem? Could I get them to replace the card? I've never pulled a better card in my life. It was just a shame to see what appears to be a production problem. Thanks again for your help and time. Sincerely, Jeff.

Topps only replaces defective cards within one year of production -- and even that has become tough of late. (Some cards are not replaceable even within that timeframe.)

Examine the Readers Write section of that issue... someone asks the question about Mauer's place in the market. (If it's not answered there, it was also answered more in-depth in a recent BSCM.)

Basically, a player can be a top-of-the-line player but get little respect in the hobby when it comes to the actual sales for his cards. Mauer is one of those players. How long that will be the case given his successes? We'll have to wait and see.

mleber21 Wrote:I have a Fleer Yankees Clippings jersey card of Thurman Munson. Itseems to be about an eighth of an inch smaller than the other cardsfrom the set. Is this normal? I heard somewhere that most of the Munsoncards were printed and cut improperly and that most of this card isthis way. Just wondering if that is true, or do I just have a badly cutcard. Thanks in advace.

I haven't read anything about that card in particular, but it's not uncommon for memorabilia cards to have issues such as this since they have extra steps involved in the production process. An eighth of an inch is a lot -- but as long as there aren't obvious signs of trimming (irregular edges), I wouldn't sweat it that much.

2 vintage card questions
1954 Bowman Smokey Burgess card # 31on the front of the card he spells his name as Smokyon the back of the card it is spelled Smokey are all of them Like this? The Almanac does not say a word about it being a error or an uncorrected error
2nd
I have a 1959 Topps Danny Kravitz # 536 but on the back it is spelled Kravatz is this also an error or an uncorrected error.
All I can think about is when the error was found in the 1968 Nolan Ryan Rc in the 90s' it eluded alot of people over the years. Could this be another example of that type of uncorrected error?

Can you add complete sets alone to "My Organizer"?

If so, how?
