When this hobby becomes work or simply habit, what do you do?

I think that if you take a break, don't sell anything. I started collecting when I was 5 or 6 and stopped when I was 18. I stopped because I joined the Marines. I gave all of my cards to my nephew which he still has. Now I am 32 and started collecting again a couple of months ago. I took a really long break, now I look on the bay and see some of the cards that I had and they are going for a lot of money more than I ever thought. I am really kicking myself for giving my whole collection away.

Agree 100%, go get Mendenhall. Big Grin

A bummer giving those cards away, but it's never to late to start a new collection ^_^

Thanks for all the replies. I am considering everyone's advice(except the Fitzpatty stalker-Adam). I think a break would be good for me. At least a few weeks to not do anything having to do with cards. It's not like I have nothing else to do. I have two little ones(2 mnth and 17 mnth ages), so they can keep me occupied, not to mention that dreadful day to day work ordeal.

I'm definately not going to start any brand new collections(like new players, new teams, new rookies, etc). When I come back, I'll probably cut down quite a bit. I may drop my need for every Bettis card made(due to it being unrealistic and just not fun to me anymore). I'll still collect Bettis, but probably just the stuff I like(Autos, Patches, Refractors, Nice inserts, Rookie year stuff and such... leave out the 5000 meaningless parallels in his checklists). I will also reorganize how I collect otherwise too. I always enjoyed my Past steelers collection, so that may be one direction I head.

I will probably try to sell quite a bit at the beginning of football season. I need to find some crazy Bettis collector that will buy out all of my base/inserts that I do not want(probably around 1800 with dupes)... that is, if I decide to part with them :?

NO BOXES. I am officially over the box busting thing... unless I win the lottery, then I may pick up the habit again. I'm just going to buy what I am going to collect. No more throwing down 100.00 a pop and just hoping I get something remotely decent, which I won't be collecting anyhow.

I honestly think if I can get that break in... then get rid of everything I don't want(yes, that would involve not trading anymore, but I'm okay with that), I will be fine... Time will tell.

Thanks to all again for the advice. I'll probably start my break after this weekend. I have a few things incoming and would hate to be on my break and not be able to open my packages :doubt:

Take care,
-Rob
