Another trick is to sell off some small stuff and buy a larger piece for your PC

Agreed 100%

I also agree. I took about a 4-5 year break from cards and got back into it in 2004. I also sold off some of the small stuff I didn't want anymore and picked up some great memorabilia items.

I sold out once when it got to be too much and my girlfriend at the time manipulated me that cards were more important then her (thank goodness she's gone)..Now, if I get to where I feel burned out or this becomes work, I take time away from the trade sites and do little to nothing with cards. I have plenty of sports stuff to enjoy, and after the break I do cards again, feeling refreshed (until the next idiot comes along wanting high end and having nothing to offer). My ultimate advice would be to have cards that if no one ever wanted to trade with you, would you be happy with what you have and if the stuff doesn't make you happy, sell it and get something that will.

Find something new to occupy your self, or if you get so bored...just buy stuff to sell it for profit. Im sure that will get you back into it Big Grin That way you can start a new collection, like i did..I kept it fresh because the falcons got boring, and started collect Huff because he is cheap, in all the major products, and has mass potential. I need to take a break and live outside of the football world for sometime.

As most people are saying take a break. I've only been in collecting for about 3 years now and have probably taken 3-4 breaks within that time span of a few months because I just wasn't feeling the same about the hobby and collecting. Don't seel your collection again or more than likely you will regret it.

i think ur bumming of the hobby is coming from the realization that you are simply a fan of the worst college football team, to fix this simply start collecting some scarlet and grey, and all will be well.

I think I'm in the same zone as you. I've collected cards for 18 years now. I still buy boxes out of habit, but usually feel stupid for spending so much and getting so little. Then, I get so busy with work and family that the cards just pile up. Problem is, I pass the card shop every day on my drive home--so it's hard to break the habit.

Ideally, I would like to just sell off the cards that I don't want to keep for my PC and then take a break. Before I get back into collecting again, I would like to establish a goal for my collection. If you don't have a goal for your collection, it's hard to be satisfied with collecting. I just wish I had the time to scan my cards and sell or trade them.

James,

With two children (right), I didn't know you still collected! :o

I hit the "in the runt" feeling 4 years ago, but have since rebounded and just go about my business. Nowadays, a "new" pickup just makes it more special than before - that alone keeps me interested and in the game. Because "new" additions are fewer, the money spent on the hobby should be less (which you can then slurge on something else for you or your family).

Dry spells come and go, but your heart will let you know if the time is right to walk away.

I agree with the break thing, theres no real set time table for how long your break should be, but trust me when I have taken breaks (mostly cause I didnt have any extra money to buy cards) you dont miss it as much as you think you would, but that doesnt mean you should stop. Then one day youll see a card you like design of or youll be watching football and a player on your team catches your eye and you scim ebay for some of his cards, and before you know it youll be back in the game, wanting to bust new stuff, bust old stuff, trading, buying etc and after a while youll probably need another break, and just keep the cycle going. With all the parallels, gu jsy cards and different products, it does get overwhelming after a while, you feel like no matter what you do youl never make the dent in you collection you wanted, but then youll see a sweet card and boom youll be hooked again just like you were when you were 4. Take a break (I suggest from the boards as well) that way when you come back youll log on and youll see a bunch of new topics and things to delve into and youll have a new found interest in all the things you missed.
