When this hobby becomes work or simply habit, what do you do?

I've collected cards since I was 4 years old(I'm 24 now). Through the years, I've collected many different things. I finally became settled on collecting Bettis and some other things. I really love the chase of getting cards I "need", but recently I find myself not feeling the same passion for the hobby that I once had. I really used to enjoy doing anything with cards, but sometimes now, it just seems like the only thing keeping me in is the force of habit. Sometimes, I just feel like an addict, looking for a trade or a buy just to get a "fix". I may sound crazy, but that's just how it feels.

I once sold quite a few cards because I felt this way only to regret it deeply. If I sell them this time, I am just going to get out of the hobby all together, which I'm not sure that is really what I want.

Question is, if you get in these funks of collecting, what do you do to liven up your hobby and keep it enjoyable?

I watch box breaks or just look at my favorite cards.

I take a break...re-organize my collection...try and figure out a new small goal. Typically I only get burned out when I feel overwhelmed by the things I'm trying to do...so small goals that give that sense of satisfaction always works.

Another trick is to sell off some small stuff and buy a larger piece for your PC

Well when you're collecting Bettis and Woodley it will probably be a slow year. We will see very few if any new cards issued from either of those guys. Maybe you should pick a rookie from this years crop to collect?

yes but sometimes i have wasted a ton of money to get that fix at the local store, buying some stupid bowman sterling or something...those recepits are a constant reminder that a "fix" is a bad idea Smile

Maybe just step away for a while, don't sell this time, then return when the collecting bug bites again. Making collecting a habit will ruin it in time, and as others have suggested do things with the collection you have so far. Goodluck and as the NFL season approaches it might help.

I usually just start going through the boxes and sell off all the cards I really don't need/want in my collection. Use the funds to pick up some really nice singles that I should have just spent the $$ on in the first place!
