I haven't seen Bumgarner yet, but as of right now I would put Henry Sosa in the rotation ahead of Alderson or Bumgarner.

i have seen bumgarner.

he is quite amazing. I really cant even describe what i saw. As a fan of the opposing team I have left both of his starts feeling bewildered. I can only imaging what the guys that actually had to hit felt.

how about how his teammate 21yo Pablo Sandoval is doing. Leading the league batting .365 with 11 hrs and 53 rbi's in 62 games. just 1 hr behind the team's leader but 7th on the team in strikeouts

Lets compare the 1st round pitching pool thus far...
Name ERA IP Hits BB/K Ratio WHIP
Parker 3.70 48.2 54 11/37 1.34
Aumont 2.62 44.2 36 13/43 1.10
Bumgarner 1.96 64.1 53 10/74 .98
Alderson 2.84 76.0 68 24/63 1.21
Porcello 2.94 61.0 67 19/41 1.28

Overall not really one guy truely leading the pack. Bumgardner leads the pack with BB/K ratio...Jaypers hit this on the head though. Alderson is playing in the California League which significantly favors his numbers. The fact Alderson has only allowed 1 HR in this league thus far is AMAZING! In my opinion Alderson is more impressive thus far despite the numbers. I actually would rank his performance the BEST of the five. As of right now the Giants are not even considering moving him to the bullpen. He has thrown from the stretch his entire career bases empty even, a little work on his mechanics on winding up he could possible add 5 MPH on his fastball for a 6' 7" pitcher could be deadly! We shall see I am very high on Alderson myself and would take him over ANY of the other 5. His chrome auto rcs can be had for less then $20...what would a Porcello or Aumont go for if he they a chrome auto...around $60-$75 I am sure.

The Giants are not thinking of trying Alderson in the 'pen. They've said repeatedly that he will get every chance to become a MLB starter.

Is there any truth to the rumors of him being a closer or relief guy?

They're considering the possibility of him working in the pen, but I think his talents would be wasted then. Imagine a rotation consisting of Lincecum/Cain/Alderson/Bumgarner/Zito.

No Sanchez? Or even Lowry?
