I always use bubble mailers, teambags (NO TAPE!!!!!!!!!!!) and the correct pt size toploader. I feel like that should be the way everything should be mailed, but that's just me. No more snap-cases. No more taping things to death. Plain, and simple.

I'm guessing things have changed a bit when this thread first came out....now the shipping costs are the same for the first 3oz of a bubble envelope. And insurance, I believe you have to sign for anything over $100? Being a rural carrier, I just know you have to get a signature on the "blue" insured labels, and the "black" labels we just scanned delivered.

Once, you could get the online DC#s for $0.19 and hand them to the USPS clerk at the Post Office and they'd use the Prepaid package function to be able to scan your DC# INTO the USPS database. If the package is not scanned into their system, it could get lost/stolen/picked up off their floor under a sorting machine and never make it to your trading partner. Now, the USPS has written a policy off NEVER scanning the DC or Sig Confirm labels that are bought online, when they RECEIVE them at the PO, or if it's picked up for you be your letter carrier or dropped in a mailbox/slot. So, if they do Not scan these packages when they receive them, there is Every possibility that if the delivery carrier is having a hard day, they may not take the time to scan your package when it's delivered. If it does not get scanned on either end of its journey, then some crooked traders might be able to tell you they never got your end delivered, even though it's already in their collection. The USPS is trying to force their customers to use the more expensive $0.75 clerk scanned DC# service at the PO. Those Fluorescent Green DC# labels can Only be paid for by you if the clerk scans the labels bar code. That's how their computer server adds up the total services purchased. So, that method actually gets the DC#s input INTO the USPS system upon Delivery, which in turn means you and your trader can Actually input the DC#s into the USPS web site Tracking Search Engine and REALLY Track the delivery from beginning to end. DC#s are a good idea so your trade partner can Actually see that your end has been shipped, and ease their mind, and good for you to prove you actually shipped it in a timely manner. Face it, it might be Free to trade and get the cards you need and get rid of the ones you don't want to moved around constantly, into the hands of someone who really wants them. That's the basis for trading, right. But, S&H&DC&Ins is not free. But, the cost of those services is far less than what your cards might be in the future. So, if you try to get over on the cheap in a trade, don't expect repeat customers. You spend more money ripping boxes open and getting those cards you mostly don't collect, anyway. If you can trade them away, then the proper S&H costs are worth having repeat business!

If someone has told you this, I'd doublecheck and ask to see where this is written! For about the past 6 months or so, our scanners were updated with the capability of scanning the prepaid DC, and we are supposed to be scanning them when we pick them up from the mailbox! Whoever told you that is full of baloney...... "The USPS is trying to force their customers to use the more expensive $0.75 clerk scanned DC# service at the PO. Actually, I gotta go oppo on this too. The post office has no problem if you want to buy the green DC, but the PO would also like you to use your own dime to print the label with your paper and ink. Saves them money by not having to print the green DC labels. And if your not coming in to the PO, that means the clerk, who might be full time, will not have as much to do, so when that person retires, you don't have to fill that regular spot with another, you can make a new part time position. I'm sure there are many scenarios to this, but I'm kinda using an example from our PO. The full time guy is retiring in a few months, and they are not filling his position with another full time, they are going to use 3 part time people. They have 2 now. |
