BGS What is your criteria for sending things to BGS for grading?
I have a box of well over 150 cards that I plan to send off to be graded in increments as I have the cash to do so.
A good bit of it is cards from the 60s and early 70s with a few 50sinthere. Also in there is a good bit of low printed cards from sets like National Treasures. In addition I have my 84 Topps cards, Elway and Marino to send off (The Elway is in a PSA holder and needs to be cross graded). Other than that the rest of the cards hold a BV of at least 10 dollars(as of the time I put it aside in the card saver). Whenever BGS releases their weekly specials I'll browse my general collection to check for any mid value cards that fit the bill and consider sending them off as well. I am curious to hear what my fellow collectors use as their criteria for sending off their cards. I am a private collector, seldom trade, and never sell anything from my collection. I use the vintage grading based on advice from a fellow collector who assured me it was the right thing to do for preservation. What say you? Seeking 2007 National Treasures Drew Brees Laundry Tag cards #'d to 10. Trade/Buy for: Saints and Frank Thomas

If you just want it slabbed, I would recommend BVG for the vintage stuff. If you care about the grade, I would send it to PSA because BVG applies the same tough standards to vintage as they do to the modern cards. Nothing against BVG but if you're caring about the grades, send them to PSA. I do like the Beckett slabs better than the PSA though.
I collect Griffey Jr, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, all 2008 running backs, M JD, S Jax, Fitzgerald, Roddy White, Braylon, Andre Johnson, DeAngelo and just ab out everything else... |

Since your intent is never to sell slab with whomever your comfortable with,,,,, secure in the knowledge the items protected ( hopefully) from future damage,,,,, If an item was to be resold my own personal choice is BGS for modern ( 1980 & up), PSA for post war 1941 thru 1979, and PSA or SGC for prewar stuff 1940 & prior ,,,,,, again that's PERSONAL choice,,,,,,, Sounds like you have an interesting collection ![]() Jeff SUGGESTIONS SUBMIT IT HERE !! When I first started sending cards away to be graded I wasn't very selective, but now I've learned a lot about how the hobby works and the market and what not, so I'm more selective now when choosing cards to be sent in. Pretty much any modern card that you don't think should grade a 9.5 or higher isn't worth getting graded. You will get just as much for a raw card as you will for a BGS 9. A lot of people only want 9.5's of the newer stuff unless it's of really expensive cards and you can save a few bucks and grab a 9 instead.
The only new cards that you know will not grade 9.5 that should be sent in are short prints that you want to keep yourself and want to have slabbed just so they go with the rest of your collection. I sent away a Craig MacTavish Brushstrokes Red Border #/10 even though I knew I'd be lucky to get a 9, but all my other cards that I keep in my display cases are BGS slabs, so it won't look right in a different case. I collect Graded Hall Of Famer Rookie Cards. Just say no to sticker autographs. |
