It wasn't borderline!!! Clearly inside....They would have had a chance to friggen win it if he called that a ball. :x

Beckett got every call, it was ridiculous the calls he gets, Giambi and A-Rod in the first or second inning, it wasn't even close, and they were squeezing joba a little too. Nevermind when Wake pitches he rarely throws a strike, but they call it where it lands for him, most are too high when they cross the plate
Maybe I wasn't paying attention but I didn't see Beckett getting many calls 4 inches off the plate.

And to the guy who said you can't end a game looking at a third strike...you've clearly never watched JD Drew play before. The number of at-bats in which he doesn't take the bat of his shoulder is mind boggling.

Pitch was a solid 4 inches off the plate. After getting rung up on a poor call earlier I don't blame him.
And where is homerBrad complaining about the umps now

as Brad just said, Beckett got that call ALL GAME LONG... so let's call it even
...
I never got that. Why do umps make calls based on past calls? If they called a bad strike earlier, get over it! They shouldn't make up for it later, when it is a whole different situation. Now, Beckett did get a couple of calls, but I HATE how umpires try to make up for missed calls. Live on and make the next call correctly. Don't change a call because you missed one earlier

It is the human element, they feel like they have to make up for it, lowell really hurt JD, after that he didn't have a chance. He might have hurt them tomorrow too, umps dont forget. It better not be Angel Hernandez in either of the next two games, that will be a problem

JD Drew refuses to put in good at bats because he is so passive at the plate. He'll get ahead 2-0 just so he can take a fastball down the middle of the plate and not swing. In this situation, with two strikes that is a pitch that he could easily foul off but instead takes it like a sitting duck. I don't think I've seen any clutch hits by him in his time here.

agreed 100%, that should not happen... yet, people can't go all out shouting it's a bad call when their own team benefited from the same type of call more than once in that same game... and I'm not just saying it for today's game, today's teams or even just for baseball, it should be the case everywhere

I hope nady and marte are ready for the game tomorrow, we need to win tomorrow, cause Sunday is not looking good, it might be Ponson's last start the way IPK pitched last night. We need to win 2.

You obviously missed my point...

I'll spell it out for you:

How would you know if his knuckle balls are too high when they cross the plate when you have never been in position to judge them?

I do have a tv.... but anyway, who cares... Beckett got a ton of calls, and Mo's pitch wasn't 4 inches inside it cut back over late probably was a ball at the plate but a strike when caught, just like Beckett was getting today.

Oh, so professional trained umpires who get a vantage point as good as you can get are all wrong 100% of the time yet you, who has a TV with a center field camera angle, can tell that his knuckle balls are high when they cross the plate.

Wow.

Were Sandy Coufax's pitches high when they crossed the plate too?
