giantrobot9000 Wrote:Hey, congrats...that's an awesome achievement. I only got halfway with my set and bailed. I wish I hadn't, but I needed the money for something else. I remember when they first came out in 06 how many were on eBay, and the hype about the Earl Monroe and James Silas cards. There was a typo in Beckett about the Fred Brown card that made everyone think there was an uber-rare version, which turned out not to be true (but there are two different stamped/unstamped logos, not sure if either is more rare or not). I checked a few months ago, and they are much harder to find now.

Any chance of trying the refractor set??? I've seen 2-3 complete regular sets now, but I can't imagine many people have a refractor set.

COngrats on completing this set with so many first time signers!!

In the last year those sellers selling the backdoored topps cards have sold probably around 3000+ of these autos, so it has been much easier to complete than before. They have even sold 10+ of the Monroe.
The Brown and the Attles, also have different card stock depending on the logo.
The ones in
this set (zonealarm) are the 2 cards that are the most pletiful in the entire set. The brown must have a print run of around 1000, and the Attles 600.
The other versions are the limited versions, this is why I think the Print run beckett gives is for this other version only, since those are harder to find.

Before I was counting how many complete sets. I probably have seen 10 complete sets.
For the chrome, I know 2 collectors are collecting it. With those sellers(backdoored) selling 100's of them(400+) in the last year completing this set has become realistic

Unless the print run released by Topps and Beckett is wrong, none of the cards in the set has more that 500 copies (or 400+ copies). The Brown and Attles should have 216 and 176 copies respectively. I know that there is a different version for these two cards and the print run may be less than 10 copies. I once saw a Brown one when the product was just released. Both the owner and I did not realize that it was a rare one as there were a lot of Brown cards on ebay at that time. He sold it later but refused to disclose how much he sold it. As far as I remember, the card is thicker than other cards.

It appears to me that you have a good knowledge of the set and have followed the set for a long time. So, please correct me if what I have said is wrong.
I responded earlier, but when I hit post, the screen instead refreshed and my post was lost.
As I mention earlier the brown and Atttles have different card stock depending on the logo.
Last year I would still always see 20+ of Brown and 10+ of attles for sell while the other cards only had 1 or 2.
I even checked ebay yesterday 9 Brown were available, and only one had the rare logo. For the Attles 18 were available and 3 of them had the rare logo.
these cards by far are the most easier to find.
If Attles only had 176 we would not see that many for sell all this time.

I don't know if you ever saw a collector trying to win all the brown cards in ebay. But the Brown cards kept on showing up in bunches. I think he gave up when he had 88+(somehow i also remember 120), since then he was trying to sell it as a lot.
With this evidence of what i have actually seen, is why I say the numbers beckett gives are more likely for the rare logo and don't include the most easier to find version.

Yeah some of the cards were really hard to find when I would search for my set, I made this list last year, before the resent flood of autos.
players like Artis Gilmore
Calvin Murphy
Campy Russell
Eugene Kennedy
Earl Monroe(shortest print run but I have seen more of these than some others)
Howard Porter
Walt Hazzard
Zaid Abdul-Aziz
Austin Carr
Bob Love
Cliff Hagan
Dick Snyder(really hard to find)
John Lucas
Leonard Gray
Rolando Blackman

I think you are right. The print run for Al Attles and Fred Brown is referring to the those with different logo. Those with the white logo should be more than 500.

I had no intention to make the set when the product was released. I just wanted to collect those first-time signers like Bill Bradley, Zaid Abdul-Aziz, Dick Snyder and etc. At that time, I didn't have any difficulties in finding those fist-time signers and was able to get most of them in a few months. Near the end of last year, I found a dealer at a card show with many of these autos (over 40) but almost all of them were not first-time signers. I bought all of them and started to look for others to make the set. For me, some of the non first-time signers are hard to get:-

Artis Gilmore
Billy Cunningham - not that hard but was always sold much more than BV
Dan Majerle
Rick Barry
Ricky Pierce

When I was collecting them, I noticed there were definitely players that went for more than book or were tough to get. This was right after they were released, and for a couple of weeks before Beckett priced them-

Dan Majerle (not TOO hard, but always sold for at least $30-40)
Dee Brown (not hard to find, but very popular)
Billy Cunningham
Dick Snyder
Any of the '50s-era players (Arizin,Gallatin,Hagan, etc)
AC Green and Byron Scott(took awhile to get one for less than $20)
Slick Watts
John Starks
World B. Free

I had around 100 cards, mostly middle and low-end players (lots of $60 and under guys, no Bradley or Robertson), and being fairly frugal I think I might have spent around $400 on them. I pulled Connie Hawkins,Cliff Meely,Gar Heard and Lou Hudson from packs myself. I sold the partial set for just under $700 a few months after they were released. I tried to pick up the more common players for under $5 shipped, but I would pay around $10 if it was a player I liked or he seemed tough to get. It was the most fun I've had trying to complete a set.

Zonealarm-Do you have the yellow back Spencer Haywood? I didn't see it in the scans.

I think there are only blue and red versions of Spencer Haywood. What is the yellow version? Do you have a scan?

Oops, I meant yellow JERSEY....that's how they used to distinguish the two. They called them red and yellow, but it was actually his jersey that is yellow with a blue background.

This one...you must have it-

Yes, I have it. It's the fourth card on the 25th row of the scans.

Zonealarm...very cool set, and congrats! Do you know if you have the complete set including variations? Lagos says there is 189 in this post http://www.beckett.com/beckettforum/Defa...&t=1731407 are you missing some variations? Also, there seems to be some ink variations as well as seen in his post, and this Attles auction BLACK ink. http://cgi.ebay.com/05-06-AT-Fan-Favorit...dZViewItem

Oh, I just missed it...I was looking next to the other Haywood and thought it would be there.

I didn't know about the ink variations for some of the players, either. So, it seems that they might have kept some of the unsigned cards for themselves and signed them at a later date to give to TTM requests or something?

WOW thanks for the link of the Attles, I even saw that card when looking for how many Attles available and I did not notice the black ink.
So now I have to add another to my missing list Smile
