bgstan Wrote:[quote="deez283"] The SGC registry is nice, but nobody participates in it. I see you like the fleer 1961 and 1988 basketball sets, PSA has 77 entries for the fleer 61-62 set while SGC only has 7, and PSA has 61 entries for fleer 88-89 whereas SGC has only 1. Basically you are leaving BGS for another company (SGC) that has weaker slabs than beckett and almost a non-exsistance registry (very few participants). My advice is, if you don't want to go the PSA way, then stay with BGS. There is no registry that can compete with PSA's. Beckett was the only grading company that can match or surpass the PSA registry. Well... I'm not leaving anything just yet I said "if I had to choose".... I know how many people are participating on SGC and PSA's registery for the 2 sets and I would still choose SGC over PSA any day of the week for my personal collection. I'm not a fan of PSA's standards and SGC does atleast have a registery one could enter his or her cards with.. I took Joe O's advice along time ago and chose "to never get cheated" BGS doesn't have exactly a huge following for the 2 sets I mainly collect either but aslong as there was a registery that works I was happy... But the slabs and grading criteria was and is very important to me as well..

I agree with you that slabs and the grading standards are important. However, just by looking at the fleer 61-62 set on the SGC registry, it looks like they give leniency towards centering as do PSA. Some of the SGC graded cards look to be 90/10 off centered and SGC still gave a final score of 6 and 7. I don't know if all grading companies give leniency for vintage cards, but it sure seems like it. I've seen BGS, PSA, and SGC give vintage cards higher grades compared to the standards of grading modern cards.
IMO this is why BVG took out the subgrades, because if they left it intact, people would question their vintage standards as well. Either way, I'm not trying to convince you to do anything you don't want. If you choose SGC, then there is nothing wrong with that. I have a very rare michael jordan card signed by john salley!!! |

I see alot of 1961's I wouldn't considor purchasing due to weak centering. Actually alot... I have some BVG 4 that are sharp and clean just OC that could easilly be in a SGC 6 holder no doubt They were once PSA 9 oc

I absolutely love when I see a PSA 9 (OC) for sale that is listed at the current mint PSA 9 and BGS/BVG 9 price, some of the OC's should just say "miscut" as they would be a 4.5 or so if they were lucky if they were graded by Beckett

People grade their cards not for their personal collection but to sell (on internet, card conventions, etc). I do prefer BGS but so far I have been happy w/ PSA. 9 and lower they seem to do a good job. |

In your Organize, you can add a Graded category. Next to the Condition drop down there is a box that is ... . In there you can choose the grading company, the grade, and if its a BGS, it will validate the grade.

It showed the cards you currently have in bold and the cards that you still need. It showed the player/set percentage complete and total points achieved. And it let you upload pix of your actual card. I think that was it, but I might have forgotten something. I think I hit the key points that the current registry is lacking. I just remembered something. Viewing other people's registries was lightspeeds faster than the Current Registry AND with no "timeouts". So you see how much more everybody wants and expects! ![]() Special Props to pyr0punk for this Amazing & Killer Banner!! |

How about actually being able to view the Registeries? It's been months since I can actually access the registeries (not my collections crud) try going to 1986 Fleer basketball registeries and tell me how many sets you see? can you get to it? I just get a time out message over and over and over.......

I've been unable to access any registries for a long time too, I generally search by player like Barry Sanders, Brett Favre, Jerry Rice.
It used to be fun exploring public registries and browsing the pictures. It also helped support stronger value for the slabs because common cards graded high for the registries were in better demand. |
