Team Collectors Thread - July 2008
Hey All-

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I got to spend mine at a wedding rehersal Friday night and wedding Saturday in some small town with nothing to do...wedding had enough drama for a nighttime soap (parents didnt approve and were not the least bit quiet about that and utter chaos on the wedding day)...thank goodness I was just the "fiance of one of the bridesmaids" and not actually involved...good thing was I was stuck at the hotel all day Saturday while my fiance was getting ready, so I got all my cards sorted for Nim and alot of ebay listings done (need $$)....

Wayne - Glad you liked the card...since you have a ton of Red Sox already, I was afraid I would get you something you already had, and I had my eye on that one for a few days...what really made me want to get it for you was the fact that Rondo was on the card, and his defense made such a difference in the series...got the big 3, and probably the most important "other player", so I figure it will serve as a good reminder for years to come...here is hoping to a rematch next June (with slightly different results!)

Angels all stars were no surprise to me...the three I figured...I am actually glad Vlad did not make it...I thought he might get in due to his good July, but I didnt really feel he deserved it...if he did make it, it would have been on name recognition, and I hate it when guys get in for that...too bad Saunders is starting Sunday, or he might be in line to start the game (although his wife is schedule to have their first baby early next week, so I heard on the radio he may not be there at all)

I honestly dont know what Milwaukee is thinking....while I appreciate them "rolling the dice" and going for it now, and wish the Angels would do the same, there is one big difference...if the Angels landed someone the caliber of Sabathia (or Holliday Big Grin), the Angels woudl have at least a fighting chance of signing them long term..but in this case, the Brewers know darn well they cant resign him, and are giving up a guy who could be a uber-stud for years to come...I dont know, I personally dont think they have that good of chance anyways...I guess if they can make the WS, then it would be worth it...time will tell...

Well time for me to get some work done...later all..

OK, I think I'm all caught up now

Mike B: Congrats on the new job and just because you step down as tier-2 doesn't mean you are out of the group! Stick around and continue to contribute to the camaraderie and banter.

Buddy: Congrats on the new man-cave!

I bought a blaster of Upper Deck Series 2 the other day... first cards I've purchased in what seems like forever! The guaranteed game-used card was a Twins player. I pulled one Angels card I didn't have yet (Torii Hunter) and that was about all the box had. Everything will get sorted and in your mailboxes eventually.

Good MAENing

Nimster- good to see you back, I would love a 5 day weekend. Maybe I'll get one around convention time?

Does everyone still have 10 fingers? I couldn't light off any fireworks because it was wayyyyy too dry by me Sad I'm sure they'll be another time that I'll see my cash be blown up in mid air.

What a long 17 inning game between the Braves and Astros last night. I for one would love to catch a game go that long. We had to DL 3 players because of it, lol.

Hope everyone is doing well
John

Nimster- After Aaron Cook's start yesterday...I dont think he will even be considered for starting...he could have won his 12th game but wasn't good enough. I think Hurdle will make sure he gets in the game though.

jtharrett- Can we give you Atkins instead of Holliday???

Emeraldrain- Dangle away...I'm a push over. lol

That actually could be more realistic...the Angels would have to completely gut their farm system to get Holliday, wheras I dont think it would take nearly as much to get a guy like Atkins...

But Holliday is still my pipe dream Big Grin

I guess they were wrong this morning...apparently, his wife is due to give birth tomorrow, and he may miss his start tomorrow...that would mean he would make his last Friday and be in line to start the ASG....PLEASE let this happen....

Although I do have to admit Cliff Lee is probably more deserving...

Nim - check your email...

Good MAENing. As promised, I indicated I would take a look at those that have not posted in a while. Here is what I found.

Yankeelegend51080 - A's - Mike B - Last posted here, 5/5, on Nimster, 5/10.
Dwean42697 - Orioles - Daniel W - Last posted here 6/21, on Nimster, 5/26.
WillinghamRocks - Marlins - Craig B - Last posted here 6/5, on Nimster 6/27.
Ericbway - Rays - Eric B. - Last posted here 6/9, on Nimster 6/17.

I only checked on Tier 1's. This is not being done to kick anyone out. I promised at the end of last month to check on attendance in our thread this month. I will try and send an email to all tonight to ask them to check in for the month.

I am concerned with Mike B's absence. He has not even logged into Beckett for sometime. We have someone interested in the A's if he was to step down or get involved as his tier 2.

Wayne

Live You Know what in about 10 minutes if anyone wants to watch... UD Series II Guarnteed GU

Also James T. I think Lee would have been a lock for the start if he hadn't got hit a little his last time out we shall see... I think the NL Should be Volquez but what do I knowBig Grin

Well our stud Ace C.C. gone with hopefully a few young studs (hugh umm... Matt LaPorta Big Grin ) on their way in. While it sucks that the Indians are out of it otherwise he wouldn't have been traded but I guess it all happens for a reason, yeah well tell that to every Cleveland sports team since 1948
