Team Collectors Thread - July 2008
Thanks guys for the well wishes. We still have to win 3 more to be state champs. The funny thing is it actually got a little ugly last night. Some parents are not happy with playing time for their kids. I have played everyone every game, naturally some more than others. I have my top six that play the whole game. I then have the next six that I work into the game on an equal basis. Well naturally, some of the parents of the kids not playing the whole game started to complain. I guess the fact that we have won 4 games and stand a chance to win a state title doesn't matter. I know from doing the book that the other towns we play are not nearly as fair with playing time, and in many instances have kids that don't play. Unlike Litte League, there is no mandated playing time for Babe Ruth.
I am sick over it as I thought I was being fair. Funny thing is all the kids are having a great time and do not seem to have a problem. It hurts when people who you think are friends can say some nasty things about you. Oh well, I will survive. I got three packages today. One from Nimster, one from Barry (I guess the computer is still down) and one from Southside Santa! I don't have time to share the goods, but I will later tonight. Thanks guys. Wayne |

Hello TCs!!!!
I know, it's been TOO long and I'm very sorry. The past 9 months have been crazy with baby Andrew growing so fast and things changing at work. I'm VERY sorry for not stopping by more often. My time is so highly taken with work and family that I've decided to stop collecting except for my Chris Young collection. EVERYTHING is being sent to Tony the current White Sox Tier 1 and so he'll be receiving stuff for himself and for all of you. I've also got a long OVERDUE package for Andrew which I'm sending this week. We've bought a hous and are going to be moving in October. I need to lighten up on the cards and use money for some repairs and decoration and stuff. And more and more for the family as well. Oh and I'm also getting married next year. Wow, so much has happened!!!! Anyways, I hope you're all doing well and I'll stop by more often! Have a nice summer (I'm going on vacation end of this coming week for 1 month!!!!!!!!) Talk to you all soon! Dom |

Hey All
Figured I would stop in and say hey. I have been at my new job for two full weeks now. The IT department in my new company is light years ahead of the one I just left, which is really good for me! I am surrounded by brilliant people. My manage and director are both great people. I have been insanely busy, learning the new job and a new programming language. This is the first time I have been on my home PC in two weeks. I already have two training trips planned, one to Denver and the other to Atlanta. I was very nervous starting a new job, but I now have a golden opportunity for personal and professional growth. I hope this finds everyone well! I will be on from time to time and hopefully when my life gets back on an even keel I can spend some time working on my collection again. Wayne, I havnt forgotten you. I will send out a GABB to you so you can distribute it among the group. Hopefully I can get some time in the next week or two to get it packed up. Mike |

Page 4 bump?
Dom, so great to hear from you again. I was just thinking of sending an email the other day. It has been too long and I'm just as guilty for not dropping you a line. I guess I'm sad that you have to cut your collecting down to just Chris Young but at least you'll still have a great player collection to focus on. The news of marriage and a house are great and I wish I could hop a plane across the pond to congratulate you guys in person. Maybe one of these days. Where are you going on vacation? Hope to hear from you soon. Wayne, don't let the self-centered parents get you down. There is an old saying: If you're not on somebody's $*** list, you're not doing anything worthwhile. BTW, did the Red Sox get the weekend off? I haven't seen them playing any games since before the All-Star break  (I'm sure you will pay me back when Angels visit Fenway) Mike B. You are lucky to be in such a fresh new position of golden opportunity. Make the most of it and enjoy every minute. One day I hope to join you in the spirit of loving my job and having a great person for a manager. What programming language have you been learning? |

One day I hope to join you in the spirit of loving my job and having a great person for a manager. What programming language have you been learning? Nim I have been learning C# leveraging the SOAP, WSDL & UDDI protocols. Mainly to develop web services. The company is rapidly moving to a mostly DotNet environment. I also have to brush up on my ASP.net & VB.net skills as well. I have much more experience with them than C# though. Luckily I had a C++ class in college which is helping with the C# learning curve. My new company really has it together. I am working in a clustered server environment with distinct tiers (presentation, application & data layers). Almost everything is encapsulated for reusability and security. Hope everyone is doing well. Anybody heard from Justin? I am kinda worried about him. Mike |

I spoke with Justin via email not long ago.
Also, I found this post from our other former Padres collector Anthony: Anthony D. Wrote:Hey folks, Here is a link to the thread: OT: New Baby I know C++ but rarely get to use it. I wrote all the C code for the LCD display and 6-button control pad in our latest instrument platform. All my daily programming is in VB, writing for engineering development programs and manufacturing test programs. Unfortunately, right now I am on a stinkin' committee in charge of bringing our site up to compliance so we can obtain ISO certification... booooooring!!!! |

Team Collectors Thread - July 2008
Hey guys. Its been awhile since I have posted. My wife got me Guitar Hero for the Wii for my birthday last weekend (birthday is tomarrow, i got it early) so I have been spending alot of time playing it. Anyone else play?
I got my Secret Santa gift in the mail yesterday and posted on the other site how nice it is. I wasnt sure if you guys knew what I do. I go to school part time to become a teacher but I work at a grade school in their before & after school program and during the summer it is an all day event where we go on field trips and such. Well each summer each staff member puts on a class to teach the kids somthing different and fun like craft activities or putting on a play. Well last year and this year I got the idea of teaching the kids about sports card collecting. I talked to them about the different kinds of cards and how to safely store them and such. Last year I emailed both Topps and UD to see if they had some sort of program that I could use but of course they didnt want anything to do with me and said that I would have to submit a tax id and all that for any donations. Well I was doing this on my own so I had none of that. I wanted to show the kids how much fun it was to open packs but it would have been to expensive for me to go out and buy stuff for all the kids so I made up my own packs with team bags and probably gave out around 6500 cards. Well since I gave those out and I joined this group I am unable to do that this year. I do have quite a few cardinal cards that I can hand out but nothing as far as packs. So I was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy some old boxes of cards cheap. Just so they can open up a few packs. They wont know who the players are but to them it is all the same. I may have to do somthing different this year. |

Hey all,
Anthony congrats on the beautiful new addition to the family. I hope you don't need much sleep! I am glad this week is here. The wife and I are heading to Las Vegas together. I have been there about 15 times but Susie has never been there. We booked this in April; its a celebration of sorts since in August we will have been married 20 years. High School sweethearts. We have been together 26 years, that anniversary was July 18th. We are going to stay in the Mirage, do some gambling and some swimming, and see a bunch of shows. And head to the Elvis Chapel and renew our vows with The King! And its my first break from 100 hour work weeks since June. I need some R&R. So does my wife. Hope everyone has a great week, it seems like many of us are on vacation this week.Be well all. Eric |
