"altered" cards and the plague they bring graders
Just curious if anyone else has experienced a rash of these from sellers (Ebay, card shows, etc..)

For instance, I recently bought a LeBron Hames SP Game Used Rc...that was graded by GAI...well, obviously I wanted to pop it out of that aweful case and get it re graded by Beckett...only to find it, the card was altered in 2-3 different places!

Horrible...

Most recently, I had a card sent back to me that in fact, came from A PACK...but was tossed back saying it was altered. That card (LeBron James Honor Roll jsy RC /499) was sent in the same order as the Sp Game Used...so maybe, they just thought I was altering them myself or something (which I haven't a clue as to how you would do it and not chew the card up).

More frustrating then anything, is when you look over a card, and it looks clean...you submit it, and it's tossed back in your face, saying it was altered.

Im finding it hard to trust anything, and anyone....at all.

I had the same experience last year with an Exquisite Trios auto submitted to Beckett. No explanation was given except to say the card couldn't be graded because it was altered. They never explained how it was altered. It didn't make sense because there were 3 on-card autos, no jerseys and white borders all around. I just kept the card for my PC. There was no reason to alter the card. I just felt an error had been made in grading.

Exactly...no reason, just "we aren't grading that"....

I also had another exerience with this that happened to one of my good friends at the national in Chicago. He took a card from his father's personal collection who passed away...it was a Derek Jeter Sp RC...they tried to tell him it was altered/shaved, which obviously didn't go over very well with him. He proceded to complain and make a scene...and eventually, they graded it!!

Freaking amazing...

It came back a BGS 9...which is extremely good for that set/card.

But this is what Im saying...there's really no consitancy to their grading, and I guess if you complain enough...you get what you want.

Ill be sure to keep the masses posted...

I recently sent the card in with an order. Im trying to do everything that's asked of me, instead of blowing my top.

I just don't feel that's the manner in which you get things accomplished. I believe handling it in a mature manner, would obviously reap the most benefit.

But who knows....maybe Ill have to take it to that next level.

No one else has had any experience with people altering cards and such? Beckett sending them back saying this or that as to why they don't grade them?

I find it hard to believe with the frequency it happen's to me...
