That is pretty unbelievable on both ends!!!

That Ryan Church probably went for twice as much as it would have gone for 2 months ago or will go for 2 months from now.

And that Atkins... WOW!!! That is a steal!!! I'm hoping the winner was the BMB's magicpapa because he deserves to get a steal like that for all he does for other collectors. I don't buy a lot on ebay and certainly don't track Atkins cards, but if I would have seen that same card at a show for twice what the bid was I would have jumped at the opportunity.

He bought it per my request because the seller didn't ship to Canada. Lets just say he has been justly rewarded Smile

I would expect each of these cards to be in the $40-50 range.

Even if Atkins batting stats were lower (.800 OPS, fewer RBI) he would still be a more valuable player than Church because he is putting those stats up at 3b, and he is playing with a weaker lineup (with the exception of Holliday and sometimes Helton although he is fading quickly). When it comes down to it, the most RBI Church has ever had in a season is 70, and even hitting 5th in the Mets lineup behind Beltran and Wright, he is still only projected to have 89. He is also still a year older than Church. This is no knock on Atkins, but that price differential is insane.

no I wasnt really comparing the 2 players so much as I was saying your bringing up his stats and I dont think its fair to compare the 2 of them based on stats with atkins playing at coors field, Atkins has done more in his career, so hes the better player, i think Church is ready to be in his prime, atkins already is. Like I said the Atkins at that price is a steal, but the Church being so high is more than just him being a Met

How do you get that? Atkins should be entering his prime as well, he is a year younger after all.

get what? Church obviousely devolped a little later than Atkins therefore hes hitting his prime a little later than atkins, some guys hit their primes earlier than others, age doesnt mean much, everybodies different

Atkins played his first full season at 25, Church also played his first full season at 25. Atkins did a bit better than Church each year comparatively throughout their careers while playing a harder position; the only conclusion that can be drawn from this is that Atkins has a bit higher ceiling. I have nothing against Church, I think hes a quality ball player that could blossom into a star, but I like Atkins a bit more, as you might be able to tell.

i guess if you can tell that this early then great, Church had his breakout year this year atkins had it a few years earlier, im not sure where the confusion is. No one said Church is better than Atkins, if you think hes better right now thats fine I do too, but if your going to be fair you need to take the coors field stats into account, it sucks for guys that play for colorado, because its hard for people to see how good a player really is that plays at coors, when bums can put up 140 RBIs while playing for them, Atkins looks like he can clearly hit anywhere he plays, but it has to be taken into account would Atkins have been an MVP candidate if he played for the Dogers? no one really knows

The year isn't over yet, and I expect Church's OPS to fall to around .850 or so. I think he would have been an MVP candidate anywhere he went in '06. Away from home his OPS was still over .900 with only one less HR and 2 more doubles. People discounted that season just like they discounted Holliday's season last year, and its not fair IMO.

iits been happening forever, if you go by stats guys like Helton Larry walker Bichette etc should have multiple MVP's but until they find away to cut out the advantage of that field people will continue to discount guys numbers there

The Humidor has helped a bit, but if thats the case, Jeff Francis and Ubaldo Jimenez should win the CYA every other year Smile

It all has to do with the uniform.

Yanks, Sox, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers in that order in terms of which teams get the most Hobby love and hype and fans willing to pay big.

Throw Atkins in any of the above uniforms and his cards will follow Church.

I think when Atkins contract expires, if the Rockies don't resign him, he is in for a big pay day. He is an absolute steal right now at $300,000-$400,000 a year.
