Everybody that tries to make the argument that "roids" weren't illegal are just idiots.  I'm sorry to put it that way as I am not usually that harsh, but regardless of it being "illegal in baseball", they were and still are ILLEGAL in real life.  Are baseball players above the law? 

As far as Pete Rose goes, it's pretty safe to say that he didn't rig any games.  Have you seen the way that man played the game?  OMG, the guy has more hustle in his toes than most guys have at all in the game today.  There wasn't one game where that man didn't play his heart out. 

There is no doubt he loved the game and I would vote him into the Hall but rules are rules.  I don't much agree with them and if they change the rule then I'm sure he'd be in on the first shot he got.  I think there should be harsher rules for these drug addicts.  They are rigging the game.  They are using an artificial substance to get more power.

I think what they should do is induct him into the HOF, but continually ban him from all other MLB activity altogether. Do not let him speak or even give him a ceremony at Cooperstown during the induction and bar him from even visiting the hall. Have "Banned from Baseball" inscribed where his face should be on his shrine. I think this is a fitting compromise that does not reward felonious and destructive actions to the game, and it also restores some credibility that the Hall may have lost in the eyes of some through the years.

The question is pretty easy.  Do you want to go watch baseball right now, knowing there are some players that have used steroids?  Maybe still using.  I think the answer for most people is still yes.  Do you want to go watch a baseball game that the outcome is decided before they even take the field?  I'm pretty sure I don't.  I don't know about anyone else.  So yes there is a very big difference between gambling on baseball and steroids.

The only reason Rose wanted the Ban lifted was for the indorcements, more cash for his betting habits.

Lol, he has no respect for Baseball or he never would have been betting in the first place and we also don't know that he wasn't using Drugs as well.

once again blip you make no sence,,,  the guys who use roids have no respect for the game or the fans./ they use the roids to  hit the ball futher  or throw it faster and harder  and they do it for endorsments  and records. So why wouldnt rose want the ban lifted to gain the same thing roid freaks are,,, MONEY>>>>> betting is not illegal  maybe in baseball but not the outside world,,, ROIDS ARE ILLEGAL IN AND OUT OF THE  MLB, if  rose was  a drug user I am sure it would have came out by now if he was..

Gambling is the only thing in sports you can do and never be forgiven for. Anything that can put a shadow of doubt that the sport is not legit can ruin it. Gambling and fixing of baseball games up to 1920 nearly destroyed the game.

Pete Rose bet on baseball games that he played and managed in. It is impossible to believe that gambling did not have an effect on his in game decissions.

Steroids/Drug use are nothing but another blackeye in the history of baseball that the majority of people don't care about. The only people who care about this is the writers/media and old people who feel that baseball will never be as good as it was in there youth.

Writers/Media: They want to sell papers, books, and get eyes on the tube. Simply, its all about money.

Crabby Old People: 1900's they complained about everyone playing for the money and organizations will ruin the game. 1920's they complained about everyone playing for the money and the homerun will ruin the game. 1940's they complained about everyone playing for the money and how there were no legends like Ruth or class like Gehrig. 1960's they complained about everyone playing for the money and how all the old great teams like the Giants and Dodgers got up and left the fans, it'll ruin the game. 1980's they complained about everyone playing for the money and how there was all these teams with fake grass ruining the game. 2000's they complained about everyone playing for the money and how Steroids/Drugs ruin the game.

Our attitudes and beliefs are definately defined by our own generation. Those attitudes change with each new generation. Pete Rose is 2 years older than me and I see him as a complete failure when it comes to Honesty and that is a huge character flaw that he will never be able to overcome.

For those who don't agree with my opinions, Hey! its OK, but someday all of you will have to make some choices in life that may be against the current popular norm. All I can say about that is Good Luck!

...and what about ty cobb?  talking about dirty players, he always slid with his spikes up and was an active member of the klan....yes awesome player otherwise...babe ruth and mickey mantle were raging alcoholics...etc etc etc.

it seems that players that actually cared about the game and helped make it better (but made an error in judgement) should have a shot at the Hall no matter what...well except for the steroid boys...

all im saying is that if people are backing barry bonds saying he should keep his record even though they know that he lied on the stand and almost certainly took steroids, why not let pete rose have a shot at what he deserves to be in?  you know what...throw shoeless joe in there too.  i mean come on...
