Wow! I Didn't Even Know Wrestling Cards...
were this big!
I remember seeing packs here and there over the years, but I never realized there were this many different types out there. I'm new here - my name is Rusty Williams - but the boards on this site are a LOT of fun! Actually, my "Curtis Candy" handle here is because that was my most loved character from 25+ years in pro wrestling. Through all that, I never realized there were so many different wrestling cards out there. I knew the figures were big, because when we'd go to shows groups of us would ride together. Over the past decade or so, I was always driving because I was the old man and doing a show was like working with 20 sons, and they were always hitting the local Target and hobby stores, looking for certain figures... The old man got to drive them around on their quests. Unfortunately, I don't wrestle any more due to PCS (Post-Concussion Syndrome) or I would've been happy to get cards autographed for people here. A lot of the ex-WWE guys do shows with us (Snuka, Atlas, Slaughter, etc.) and they're all very cool about signing stuff for other workers. Anyway, I was just wondering... My son (he's 8) and I have started to collect some cards. We just enjoy buying packs and trying to pull cool inserts. Any advice on which wrestling cards would be the most fun? Cheers, -Rusty- (Crazy Curtis Candy) |

It depends what aspect of wrestling memorabilia/cards interests you.
For standard cards, I like the 1980s Topps WWF sets and the 1988 NWA Wonderama set. The Topps sets are small but are in the timeframe when WWE was evolving. The NWA set has a TON of oldschool guys (much larger set). However there are Parkhurst wrestling cards from the 1950s that have some unique stuff if you want to go really oldschool. Among newer sets, Fleer had a good run from 1999ish to 2005. Topps has had the license since and its Heritage cards are the best to examine. (The 2005 set is the best one in my book.) TNA has had card sets the last couple years from TRISTAR and from Pacific some time ago as well. Cool... Thanks, Chris.
I'm kinda kicking myself now for not having thought of this when I was wrestling. It would've been fun to have cards signed by the guys in person. Oh well, this sounds like it'll be another fun type of crads to collect. Do they do much in the way of inserts on wrestling cards? |

Most Topps wrestling sets will have autographs, memorabilia cards and then one or two inserts.
Fleer's stuff would have several inserts/parallels, depending on product. The heaviest focus is on the autographs, lesser the memorabilia cards. The inserts -- or standard sets -- are not often super-high priority (just like most other sports sets). Yeah, it is quite common, Wrestling cards too. but whats really good about it is that its not a lot of money (out ofall the stuff in sets like Heritage 3 and 4, the cards do not seem to be a lot of money...in a matter of fact, I haven't seen any over $100)
I do want to start some of them, but I would rather sell my other cards first before doing that (their kinda of a distraction, plus I want to have something to begin w/) |

The Heritage IV autographs of John Cena and Mickie James should be $100 cards if you ask me. They're tough pulls (retail only) and they're big names for WWE. I've only seen a couple Cenas and one James sell on eBay since the release.
The Carlito and Layla cards are retail only as well. The Heritage IV set is loaded with youngsters -- and they seem to have dried up some online. You can't find as many cases/boxes as there had been with previous releases. (At least I think that's the case going back to not long after release.)
