Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
Uniquedesigns -- Would it bug you to learn the following about the memorabilia card pictured in your sig of Adam Vinatieri?
The piece of metal is not cut from the goal post in its original state. In fact, it was cut from a chunk of metal left over from when it was melted down. A Topps rep talks about that card, and says they melted down the goalpost, in an Upcoming NFL Films segment about football cards. It stars Beckett Football editor David Lee. Does this alter the definition of memorabilia card for that card? Chris Olds Editor, Beckett Media Email: colds@beckett.com Twitter: chrisolds2009 http://www.beckett.com/news |

Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
chrisolds Wrote:Uniquedesigns -- Would it bug you to learn the following about the memorabilia card pictured in your sig of Adam Vinatieri? That would not bother me at all. Although it is news to me, I'd love to watch that segment. When will it air? I think that this Ink issue is like Apples - Oranges, since they are trying to call the ink "memorabilia". As pointed out By Me in a previous post, the tires for the ink are Not Exclusively Attributed to ANY Specific Driver and the Event he Won. If the ink was from ONE Driver & his Event Win, then they'd have more leverage. As a graphic designer I think that the use of the ink as the medium to print the info lettering is Just Too Vague. There are heat treatment techniques that will make the ink rise and thus be more dimensional. These dimensions can be multi-leveled if the inks ingredients are varied to make specific layers rise to a specific thickness. Why not use the ink to Only print some graphic at a low level for a background image in a matt finished black, that gets a 2nd print run with another shinier black stripe of a tire tread across it. Make the ink smell like burning rubber and your getting closer to justifying an ink as memorabilia, As Long As it is Certified to have come from ONE Driver ONE Event. If it's Not a wining event, then why bother. Now, to the Goal Posts, they are attributed to a Specific Event and Only produced on 10-11 cards of the Star Players from that Event. If the metal is Only from the Winning Goal Post, It Is Memorabilia. Until you said so, I wondered how they made them. I envisioned that they opened up the seam from the tubular posts and flattened them before die/plasma cutting the miniature posts for these cards. Hearing your story, I can see why they would melt the goal post and run it out into a sheet. There would be less waste and more miniatures cut from a newly formed sheet. But, at least, I'd hope. that Topps would have Only had the posts metal in the mix. What metal are NFL Goal Posts made of? I just took out my sets and put a magnet to them. Not magnetic. They appear to be aluminum and anodized the gold color. Does the plot thicken? I hope those goal posts are made from aluminum!!! I collect Pats who have been on a SB squad. ![]() LE SB36 pins are For Sale. Fewer than 50 Player pins available for Any Collector. |

Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
I'm going to go with not a memorabilia card, especially if all they are doing is sweeping the track and using random pieces of anyone's tire to make the card. Now granted, I have received game used football cards of linebackers who possibly didn't touch that ball all game, but still. The only way it could even have a chance of being considered a legit piece of memorabilia is if it was made using the final tire that the driver finished the race with, then you know exactly what car and driver it came from. Sweeping up after a race, doesn't really make me interested in the card at all.

Not sure on the NFL Films deal. But we saw a preview, so it should be soon.

Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
Memorabilia...plain and simple. Clearly, it's race-used. It's not company manufactured, instead the tires were memorabilia acquired by Press Pass. From there, they put the memorabilia on the cards in this manner. Everytime I pull one of these cards, I consider it as a memorabilia hit. From there, I organize it alongside my other memorabilia cards. The cards may not have a huge swatch for you to admire, but they are very innovative in their own right. Don't give them a whole new category... From there, even more confusion will follow. They deserve to be in the same family as game used facemask cards, obviously! So if you choose not to categorize these wonderful cards as memorabila, you will be doing them a terrible injustice!
Collecting: Jason Campbell (supercollector), Billy Hamilton, Tim Duckworth, Nash ville Predators, Jeff Bagwell, Brian Cole, Carl Edwards, Mississippi guys, Saint s, Braves & Astros |

Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
You guys are forgeting one major inportant factor, ITS JUNIOR!!! If Press pass decided to do something like this for say, casey mears nobody would care. but its dale so it will get some collectors screaming for it. Now, If press pass was to give it a serial number say 1 of 25 or 50 then this would be saught after in the market. If they did something like this for the chase drivers the year before, like they are doing this year for some of there auto cards then we might be talking about a real memrobilia piece here.
But to the real issue, is this card a memrobilia piece.. i got to say nah on this one... someone said it before, (cant remember who) but nothing does stand out, there for, not in my little world. |

Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
Kyle Manley. Lynchburg, Va. In a word NO. It's would be to easy to counterfeit, no easy way to confirm. A piece of tire is a piece of tire. Ink is ink and looking at it there is no way to know what it really is.

My response would be that I dont think the ink is memoribilia any more than the tires are rubber trees
The Ink is made from the tires just as the tires are made from the tree. But ink is ink and tires are tires. |

Is it a Memorabilia Card or Not!?
i think from reading most of the answer that people think that if you can see the object inserted in the card it is memorabilia but the word memorabilia is an object that is treasured for its memories, valued for a connection to a historical, sporting event, entertainment-related merchandise such as cigarette cards, photos, pins, and other licensed items. a souvenir is an object a traveler brings home for the memories associated with it such as hats,t-shirts, and clothing. i agree it is a memorabilia for it holds a race used tire for the printing of the card and it has memorabilia written all over it.
