Just cancelled my Beckett Hockey subscription.
I just cancelled my Beckett Hockey subscription. This is why...
Since day one they have been late but this is ridiculous! I got my "new" Beckett (Zetterberg/Hossa cover) Dec 12th. I just went to the store with the wife and seen the new Beckett (Ovechkin/Semin cover). That means the issue I got Dec 12th was good for a whole 8 days.
I told them I am still going to buy Beckett Hockey but I want to buy it from the store so I can get it the day it hits the stands. I am in no way putting down Beckett (I've been buying Beckett Hockey since issue #1) but I just can't do it anymore. It probably isn't even their fault. I'm sure slow mail delivery is to blame but I'm done.

I know there is an online price guide. How does that work? Do you pay by the month or the year? Can you pay by Pay Pal or do you need a credit card? Is the online price guide a better deal?

$9.95 an issue at newsstands
vs
$6 per month=$72 a year for online.
vs
two year subscription from beckett is $30 (less than $2 an issue) plus 2 feww gradings...

you do the math.

I agree with you gretzkycollector i also got my Hossa/Zetterberg Issue at the start of the month I'd say the 5th or 6th and i also then went to a local store and saw the AO cover cello wrapped with the panini sticker book on Tuesday i think it was i was in aww. I was like is that seriously a new price guide. I also canceled my supscription and rather spend little extra to get it when it releases. I understand its cheaper but not worth it if you get 2 becketts in 1 month whats the use?

As a collector, I know Beckett is the dominant source for hobby info.
As someone who has spent eight years as a newspaper reporter and, briefly, an editor, I see how Beckett is doing most of us a disservice.
How? They're trying to make the magazines into something they think we want.
I personally hate that the BSCM is essentially a summary of the other monthly or bi-monthly magazines. When I pick up BHM and BSCM at the same time, it's not hard to see they just encapsulated the hockey info to cram into the monthly.
It's done to save costs of creating new content once, but is just lame when it starts to appear like the everything on this site -- three paragraph blurbs and lists.
On top of it, the magazines rarely offer anything other than highlights of what probably 10 percent (or less?) of the hobby is doing ... pulling 1/1s, buying $400 packs and selling BGS 10s. Look at the Top 10 lists, the odds are against many of us ever seeing in person, let alone owning, half The Cup rookies that fill it up every month.
Back in the day, the magazines were more ground level than they are today, when it's focus is on getting us to buy online price guides and schilling high-end products most people only dream of buying.
On a more selfish note, the editing (poor spelling, bad design, sentences that don't end, etc.) has gotten real sloppy. How can I sit at home and feel like I'm reading expert opinion when they can't string words together to complete a sentence sometimes.
Sorry about the rant.

I have a subscription.  All my issues have been delivered timely except the Red Wings one.  I'm going to chalk it up to the holiday rush in the mail, but it will be an issue if it continues into the new year.

I re-upped my subscription during the summer... and they sent me the two free gradings coupon, two days before it expired. They also neglected to send me the Rookie Rolodex issue, as well as, the Red Wings issue. I ended up making such a huge stink about it, that eventually... and in a span of the past four weeks... ended up with 2 copies of the Rookie Rolodex, 3 copies of the Wingman issue AND surprisingly, received the latest issue probably the same day the store owners got theirs, because they didn't want to have to hear from me anymore.

All it takes is to beat them over the head with the proverbial hockey stick, and they'll eventually listen.

On-Line is the only way to go.  I can find any card that I want quickly and easily.  Including a lot of oddball items.  I am an old guy with failing eyesight.  I could read Beckett when it was 4 columns to a page, but now it is getting ridiculous.  My subscription is not expensive - especially living in Canada.  Prices are updated faster than waiting for them in the mail or at the card shop.

I have recieved 3 issues and all were late. I emailed several times each time an issue was late. The point is I shouldn't have to. I'm just going to go back to buying them at the store.
I wonder if I get a refund for my remaining 9 issues I haven't received?

My last 2 issues (at least) have been very late. I even sent them an email a couple months ago about not receiving my issue because I've seen the new one in the stores for the last 2 weeks and I haven't received mine yet. Then 2 days later after sending the email I did get it in the mail. There's no reason why subscribers should be getting their issues 2 weeks or more later than the stores.

I collect Graded Hall Of Famer Rookie Cards.
Just say no to sticker autographs.
