OT: I guess it's official now for sure!!!!!!
Good luck! I quit Feb 22, 1996. I met my wife April 11, 1996. She wouldn't have even dated me had I been a smoker.
I found I had to give up a few other habits as I associated them with smoking. Funny thing is, I could still drink. The biggest trigger for me was reading. I'd stay up all night smoking and reading books so I could sleep all day for my night shifts. Any time I cracked open a book I wanted to light up. I was reading about 4 books a week back then, now I am lucky to read 1 a month. Of course, I am not in the Navy anymore and I don't have night shifts. I found that at the 3 month mark I started having dreams, very realistic dreams, where I'd smoke. I'd wake up all ticked off that I'd be so weak. Then I'd realize I didn't go out the previous night and it was just a dream. on 31 Dec, 1998 I quit drinking. I'd realized shortly before this that I'd spent $20k on beer in the two years I spent in Germany. I figured that was a lifetime's amount of cash on beer so I quit. Giving up alcohol was easy compared to smoking. I still want to smoke in certain circumstances. But I resist, easily. |
