A Jerry Maguire moment...it's 2 a.m.
I don't know how many packs of cards I've ripped open in my life, but I've enjoyed opening each and every one. The anticipation and excitement of seeing what was inside...the rookie cards, game used, the autos, serial numbered, etc. Unfortunately, most of those packs contained what now sits in countless boxes that haven't been opened in years. I'm sure everyone in this hobby has a stash like that and is now picturing it in their minds if not glancing over at the closet where their treasure is hidden. If I could get even one penny for each of my commons, I'd easily be able to buy a box or even a case of the high end products I yearn for at my local hobby shop. As I think back about the accumulation of the dark side of my card collection, as much of a storage burden and a bone of contention it has become between me and my wife, as much money that I spent on what is now practically valueless, I have no regrets because this hobby has given me so much pleasure. For the past several years I have rarely opened packs, instead I buy single cards or lots since I know what I am getting before I buy, I guess I've matured. But on those occasions when I relapse back into my box busting and pack ripping addiction, it brings me back my early days of collecting cards and reminds me that I take part in this hobby because I love it, and that is what makes those boxes of commons so valuable. But if you want to give me a penny a card, I'll take it!
