Difficulty with eBayer...May be a board member
Hey all,

Here is the situation I am dealing with right now. As many of you know I do case breaks and then most times when a collector of a set or player needs something I try and help them.

Well in OPC Premier I busted 2 Jack Johnson's /35 dual patch/auto's. I had them up for $80. Well I recently received a Best Offer from eBay member "mrconiecards". He was very nice in the beginning saying he loved my breaks and is a member of my site and can I help him, so we worked on a price of $50 all in. (He insisted we do it off eBay or very low BIN to save me fees, which was thoughtful on his end)

Well today I get a message from him stating "I just wanted to let you know that I wont be able to pay for this card. After doing some recent searches $50 is about $15-20 more than what other cards have ended for"

So basically he is backing out on a purchase in which he made a best offer and a counter offer.

I just want any other sellers and board members to be aware that this may happen to you. If you need any other details I have them.

Im not sure saving you fees was his motivation. The second he insisted that the deal be done on the side......alarm bells should be going off. Sorry it didnt work out for you.

Oh trust me I am more than aware of antics like that, but I have dealt with this buyer before and he has 131 feedback which is all perfect (And will always be now if he is just a buyer).

I just honestly am not happy with the way he went along with this and deciding since 2 have sold below $40 he thinks that is what price he should get, but he is also forgetting that 2 have sold above $55 in the last 2 weeks as well.

That sucks. If you worked out a deal they should honor their end not matter what. The ONLY way I think they would have a legit backout is if the condition of the card proved to be worse than initially described, but it certainly does not seem like that is the case here. Shame on them.

Thanks for the reply, as I stated above it has nothing to do with the condition it is the fact that he saw 2 end for slightly lower than the one he made the best offer on and is unhappy with that. The condition is perfect just the buyer is backing out.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with making deals outside of eBay! Same amount of protection pretty much for both ends PLUS -as a seller eBay doesn't get any of my hard-earned cash (paypal probably still will but dem's de breaks).

Not so accurate. The one time I got ripped off (as a buyer, to the tune of $150) was a card that was on the bay and we struck a deal on the side. I paid through Paypal, he gave me a bunch of excuses and went silent. (Card showed up with another seller a few months later.) Sure, Paypal found in my favor, but could they get me any money back? Not a chance. If you buy through Ebay, they will back the transaction themselves and refund your money in that situation. Granted, that's from a buyer's perspective. To the OP, sorry to hear about the shenanigans. Backing out of a deal because you realize (or think) you can do better is completely unacceptable from an ethical standpoint.

That's exactly what happened to me...

OP, that is wrong and he should honour his part. I'm not sure if he's a member of this board, but I know of another he posts pretty frequently on.
