It isn't even a registry.

The new site is horrible.

Hey guys, I put an importance on the registry too.  #1 I like the slabs and consistant grading from BGS.  But I'm also hoping for expansive and still smooth internet tools to inspire and learn from.

I think in the end everything will evolve to where we want it to be as long as we communicate with the Beckett folks.  I hesitate a little on that because we're still not getting subs on BVG's but I think they're trying with the website and I have seen some improvements.

My chief concern is buying/selling/trading BGS slabs easily.  I have some great BGS cards I'm fishing, but when you look from the gallery, they have nothing to set them apart from raw cards.

That being said...  it seems to me that we have the opportunity to govern ourselves and explore the advantages here.  Once we get the hang of how the registries can be used, we could build the Beckettpedia section of this BGS group to answer FAQ's, highlight some of the competitive registries, hotlink to various tools around here.  The news section could be a great place to highlight ridiculously expensive sales, new products and etc.  If you've taken the path to the help area, those FAQ's are in the Beckettpedia section of a similar board.

For the most part, we're looking for features that we've already been used to and I'm confident that those will arrive soon.  In the meantime, I think they've offered tools that could allow us to make what we want of this.

Hey guys, I emailed Bill S. and asked he put a sticky on the BGS discussion area so we can list our concerns hopefully the sticky will be put in place and Beckett has someone who will actually check it to read our suggestions.

Thanks to all for their comments!

The BGS Registry is a big part of our site, and we will continue to work on it and make improvments. Based on your feedback above, there appear to be some bugs that I will have them look into right away.

Some of the new benefits of the new Organize/Registry module is that you can now create registries that include all of the major grading companies as well as our signature brand - BGS/BVG.

A few of the things you might be missing (that we will be working on soon) include adding comments, uploading images, and more.

We thank you for interest, and I will make sure the rest of the guys on the team see these comments.

Thanks,

Quote:I'm glad that I found everyone.

I can't say how much I hate the new My Collections. There are so many things wrong with it.

#1 - Serial #'s - you enter them and they are lost ??? Makes no sense.
#2 - How can you see where you stand on the registry for a player/set/team, etc.
#3 - How do you delete a folder in my collections ?

I can go on and on, but I just feel its a waste of time. Not to mention all the pictures I had uploaded to go along with my Registry. All the time it took, and gone.

Navigation on the boards, the registry are terrible. The fact you can no longer get a BV without having to pay, horrid.

BGS should realize that they make money from GRADING and Price Guides, and advertisement from the site.

If you don't cater to the graded crowd you going to lose $, if you don't have people visit the site to get some free BV's, you will do poorly with advertisements. Some one forgot to think this whole mess out. All I can see is every other sports board packed with guys from BGS.

A few quick answers for you.

#2 If you want to see where you stand regarding a player registry, you can search for a player, click on the GRADE tab and click on Registry. You will then see the standings for the registries for that player including total points, completion percentage and average grade.

Check out the Ken Griffey Jr. page for an example Smile

http://beta.beckett.com/group/401340/Player/Grading/Griffey-Jr--Ken/?tab=Grade#tabContent

You can also do this for sets and sports by going to a specific SET or SPORT page (using search) and clicking on the GRADE tab and then on Registry.

If you check out the hockey page for example, you can see some registries there;

http://beta.beckett.com/group/185225/Sport-Attribute/Grading/Hockey/?tab=Grade#tabContent

#3 If you woud like to delete a collection in Organize, load up that collection and hover over the GEAR icon next to the collection name and you will see an option to DELETE COLLECTION. Kind of a weird location right now, but we will hopefully get that moved soon.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Bill

BGS registery folks. Please come in and read.
Hi, Bill. Thanks for coming here to read suggestions and offer assistance.

Your previous post brings up another question...This is regarding being able to add other name brand graders to registeries..

I feel this is a very bad Idea for the BGS registery. Here's a couple reasons why I feel this.

1) I've been doing a 1988-89 fleer basketball set in BGS 9.5 for over 3 years and only have 48 of 132 as of today a very very tough set.. I recently (about 3 weeks ago)  had over 70 PSA 10's from this set I went through every one of them hoping I could cross them over to add to my set. Well long story short of the 70+ PSA 10's only 7 made the cut as PSA grades these different than BGS on certain aspects such as surface and print dots.

So under this "new" format a guy can walk in here "who may not even be a BGS customer or like there services" and register his PSA 10 set knocking me out of first place on the registery? that I've been spending a ton of money on for over 3 years...It may be me but this just not seem fair to your loyal BGS and Registery participants.

This does not look like a "BGS/BVG" registery to me rather just a collection,  I would have no problem with Beckett site users to be able to add other brand graded cards to there "collection" but not the registeries. as mentioned in my first post "my organize" formally known as my collections and BGS registeries are 2 different animals put them in different cages or one may get killed...This should be a Beckett registery only.

2) Does beckett feel that letting people add PSA/SGC/GAI cards to there registery promotes it in anyway? If anything this is demoting the BGS brand.. WHY submit my cards to BGS when I can go find plenty already graded PSA copies to add to my beckett registery? And participate on Becketts registery without purchasing there product or use there services?

There's a reason PSA or SGC does not allow what is being done here, And it's not because they're not smart enough to think of it first. It's because it a bad idea. If this is how the Registery will be I know considor the BGS registeries worthless...

Sorry If I sound rude or all gloom and doom, BUT let me ask you this. Is the person who thought up these great new ideas a BGS registery participant? how much research was put in to decide this was a good idea? I'm 100% dissapointed with this and I know many others are as well..

As of know I'm not sure what I'm gonna do as far as being a particpant in the registeries here on Beckett. I guess it does not matter anyway. If I chose to quit giving BGS my business over this I could still particpate in there registeries with a new 3 party grader of choice's products.

The reason I strongle dislike the "new registery and pop reports" is not because I don't know how to use them.. I spent 40 hours on this site since monday figuring everything out. I dislike it because I feel the registeries are dead kinda like the message boards. Very bad layout...

I have to agree that the registry now resembles a collection more than a registry.  The idea to add cards from other grading companies would be a better fit for a collection rather than the registry. I can see why deez would be annoyed if he was bumped by a PSA registry member who decided to add their cards to the BGS registry. I know you can click to see just BGS cards but's just not the same as before.

Thanks for the reply. I hate to be all cranky about things, but I just feel I've put some time into My Collections and its just not the same.

I have had some luck figuring things out now. However I see a huge issue. There are tons of cards missing from the Registry, that used to be there. I'm a huge David Wright collector.

I've deleted my old registry because I thought something was wrong, but now I see the problem. Major cards are no longer in the Register like either of his 2002 Bowmans (Chrome and Base). Plus others. This is why I had 15 cards in a Registry on my collections and when I looked at the public registry it only showed 12 cards.

It seems as if the old database of cards (Master/Basic) is lost.

There shouldnt be any cards missing from the checklists on this site as opposed to the old site. If you find any, please send me the specifics - sport, year, setname, cardnumber, etc.

While I can't answer all of your questions, I can help with a few Smile

The registry is setup so you can compete as a BGS only registry. If we do contests or promotions, they will be based off BGS registries. Leaderboards also will be based off the BGS only registries.

When you view a registry for a set (for example) you can see who is leading in the BGS registry, and in the Mixed registry as well. It is two different sets of results or at least it will be once more registries get added. But rest assured that the BGS leaderboard is the one that matters and is for BGS only registries.

The option to add other grading companies is there to create mixed registries and to Organize your collection which will fall outside the BGS competitions and promotions. This is something we have heard users ask for for quite some time now.

Hope this helps Smile
