Beckett Football Best of 2007: The Way You Voted
Thousands of collectors voted for the Beckett Football Best of 2007 awards. The winners will be announced in the May/June issue of Beckett Football. We asked collectors to comment on their favorite products, sets and cards of the year. Here are some highlights.
“I have to say that Topps Chrome was one of my most enjoyable breaks in years as well as being great value-wise in every pack. An average of one rookie per pack, an average of at least one X-fractor or parallel refractor per pack, great inserts of Favre’s chase for the record, LaDanian Tomlinson pictured with running back legends, chances of some nice autographs. I’m not one that goes for the high-end products. I’ve see many get burnt badly with a poor box, but Topps Chrome had a lot of positives to it.” - Duane “With many products this year taking a step or two back in design (in my opinion) I voted Leaf Limited best product of the year for their beautiful design, quality of rookie, vet and HOFer cards. Limited really hit it out of the park for me this year. I was not able to buy a box/pack, but I’ve purchased a few singles off the bay. The cut autos are amazing, I think the best out of any other set this season and the Rookie Phenoms Auto set this year really took a step forward for past years. They are a great set, wish they were on card autos but they are still amazing.”- Gary “SP Authentic is the best overall product because of the high-end rookie sigs and patches. SP Rookie Threads is the best new product with the rookie sigs and jersey guaranteed to be in each pack. SPA always comes through whether By the Letter or JSY/AU card in each box. The patches, letters and autos right on the cards are beautiful and keeps people busting packs all day for that great pull. I traveled four hours each year to Myrtle Beach for some R and R. I always stop at the card shop. Two days ago, I pulled Mashawn Lynch SPA AU/JSY. SPA is the best. I want another box!” - Pam Dudley “Exquisite rookie patches were the nicest by far, though National Treasures rookie patches gave them a run for the money. On-card auto hands down are the best. SP Authentic is my favorite set to collect but the patches need to get a little bigger.”- Chris “As a die-hard rookie collector, for the money I still have to go with the Playoff Contenders for my favorite product. Besides attractive auto Rookies, there were also excellent memorabilia and auto cards making it at least worth the money spent.” - Walt “As a collector of players in their college unis, I was a big fan of Press Pass SE. Say whatever you want about Press Pass, but they are all on-card autos, baby.” - Matt “I definitely enjoyed tearing up boxes of Topps Chrome. With the Brett Favre inserts going online for lots of money, it sure doesn’t hurt to have so many combinations of refractor sets, X-fractor, and numbered parallels. It truly is exciting trying to make sets. I also like that fact that the cards come out of each pack almost in pristine condition. That’s probably due to the card technology Topps puts into all of its products. Always improving each year on design. Can’t beat it. Love Topps Chrome.”- David Barrios “This year my vote goes to Donruss Gridiron Gear. This set has a lot of great pulls in it and at a very reasonable price. I was blown away by the look of this year Rookie Gridiron Gems Triple/Auto set and was lucky enough to put the set together. All I can say is thumbs up, Donruss. You did a great job with this set and I am looking forward to next year’s release.” - John ![]() David Lee Editor Beckett Football, Beckett Sports Card Monthly |
