In late 1995 I bought a 1996 Camry because it totally outclassed any other similar car for reliability and resale value.

For the 11 years I had it (until last year), other than gas, oil and tires, it had been in the shop once; for a new ignition. (Hint: when your Legendary Cuts box arrives from Dave & Adams, do not open the shipping box with your car key... that gum goes right into the ignition and damages the pins)

I think it was an excellent purchase.

A Corolla is just as reliable, both are made by Toyota, and the Corolla get better MPG and costs less. I have had mine for 12 years no problems, 168K miles and still no hint of anything going wrong with it.

Thanks to all for the kinds words. Just a little background, I had a 1999 Nissan Altima with 170,000 miles. I decided on the Camry for several reasons: gas mileage, reliability, longevity and it was a 2009... It's my first Toyota but I love it! It might be Japanese but their made right here in America, Georgetown, KY and Lafayette, IN (I think?)...

Anyway, I thought that I would have to sell my entire collection, but I really didn't. I still have my Chrome collection and Sweet Spot Collection plus lots of hall of famer autographs and rookie cards.

I'm still going to buy cards, but just not at the ridiculous pace that I was on.

Maybe *GASP* he didn't want a Corolla! It's quite a bit smaller and does not offer quite the same options. Good car the for $, solid buy for the OP.

Really? A car that with the money you will save on gas, you can buy more cards or just cards of a guy with no guarantees. I'll take the car (and I'm not a fan of imports). Nice car regardless.

Eh, a car is a car

it goes from point a to point b

Im not really big on a car for status. I have never taken out a loan for a car, ive always saved up and paid cash. Intrest makes me angry (i already have to suffer through a mortgage). He sold 6k worth of cards that he probably really enjoyed to inherit a car payment.

How can you enjoy cards? I mean, you can only look at them so many times. Yes they're nice, but if you can sell them and buy an object of your desires with the money then why not do it. He probably enjoys the new car quite a bit more than he enjoyed the cardboard. Although I'm not a fan of hybrid/green cars by any means I commend you on your purchase.

Right on, the Corolla is a nice car with great gas mileage but I previously had an older style Altima. I wanted something with a little more room. I'm very happy with the Camry so far.

I think you should slab it, though they may ding you a little on the corners. j/k!

I keep on reminding my wife every time Tiger wins a major that I could have bought her a diamond twice the size if I had kept my sp authentic Tiger from four years ago instead of using it for a down payment for the engagement ring.

Had he of sold 6k worth of cards and bought a 6k car that was in good shape and ran well, that would definately be a win.

Quit knocking on him. It's a financially smart buy.

I'm not trying to knock on the OP, but a Camry is NOT a status car (I have an 02 Camry). It's a statement car with great gas efficiency. I'd much rather get from Point A to Point B in an economic Camry, then most other non hybrid cars.

Nice buy!

good for him, but for me I'd much rather drive around in my gas-wasting classic and muscle cars Big Grin
