BGS grading for peeled/unpeeled Finest RCs
hi guys! i just got a grant hill finest RC Graded by BGS at 9.5. I noticed that the card doesn't have the peel anymore. Is there a difference for peeled and unpeeled graded RCs? is there such a thing? or does beckett only grade the finest RCs that are peeled? or do they peel them off then grade the cards? hope to hear from you guys soon. thanks and GOD bless!

mr channel 7! hehehe
cool card you got there! anyways, i read somewhere that it is better to peel the card because the protective film actually makes the card discolor or something..not 100% sure though..:doubt: anyways, congrats on the card! |

I don't believe there's much of a difference in sell value for un-peeled vs. peeled. I have heard however that un-peeled cards are tougher to get a good Surface grade for because the feel is considered the surface, therefore if the peel has air bubbles or anything that could lower your grade.

LOL Kapuso. You purchased that card from me on Ebay. I took the peel off because I have seen alot of cards with the peels get horrible surface grades because alot of the peels, especially the older cards have bubbles in the peel. It is alot harder to get a 9.5 grading with the peel on because of those bubbles in the peel dragging down the surface grade. So I would say that a 9.5 with the peel is much rarer than a peeled 9.5. |

BGS grading for peeled/unpeeled Finest RCs
I have graded a lot of Topps Finest with BGS and It is definitely harder to get High Grades with the peel. Not always but in my experiences, the cards I've sold with the peel command a small premium, but probably not worth the risk unless the peel looks VERY good......Also it seems that BGS is the one harder on peels, PSA it doesn't seem to matter.

On old cards, the peel often bubbles and can make for some very poor surface grades.

Keep in mind that the peel can cause not just he surface to go down, but the edges and corners also.
With that said, the peel still being on the card does not always make the value higher, but there are some that pay a premium for it, especially in a high grade. Personally, if it was a card I really needed/wanted, I would pay a premium for the peel still on there even if the grade was a little lower. |
