First Look: 2007 Playoff National Treasures

Looking for something to do during that dreaded downtime between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl? If you’ve got some discretionary income to part with, Donruss might have just the thing for you: The second installment of Playoff National Treasures.

Due out Jan. 29, 2007 National Treasures promises another $500-per-pack thrill ride and some of the most super-premium football cards of the year. They’re also promising something else: Meaningful improvements to last year’s headline-making debut.

“We listened to collector feedback and we improved the product,” says Donruss marketing director Scott Prusha. “We’re doing on-card autos for the Rookie Cards and we’re taking away some of the confusion as to what the actual Rookie Cards are. And we’re bringing back two of the greatest inserts in our history: Notable Nicknames and Pen Pals.”

Collectors were treated to sneak peeks of those two insert sets in the October 2007 issue of Beckett Football. What no one has seen until now are the 1-of-1 rookie parallels (in this case, the Adrian Peterson and JaMarcus Russell gems shown here for the first time).

National Treasures, which promises six autograph or memorabilia cards in every seven-card pack, also marks the debut of Donruss’ unique partnership with Kodak aimed at combating fake patch cards.

Every premium patch card in National Treasures will incorporate Kodak's invisible Tracerless Anticounterfeiting system that will help Donruss officials and collectors determine the legitimacy of the company's premium patch cards.

“We’re doing this to preserve the value and quality of the trading cards we're producing. We do more multi-color swatch cards than anybody in the industry and we need to protect the consumer against frauds and counterfeits,” Prusha said.
