07/08 THE CUP MASSIVE SCREW UP AT UPPER DECK WHO WILL BREAK NOW
Hello, I am hoping someone can please confirm this for me.. On the checklist for this year's The Cup release, there are NO ROOKIES included in the insert sets... ie. No Carey Price Honorable Numbers, No Johnathan Toews Limited Logos, No Nicklas Backstrom Scripted Swatches!!

The only cards available in this years The Cup apparently are the Printing Plates and the rookie/gold parallels!!

I love to break this product and was planning on breaking 10/15 cases, but at 2000.00 a shot and with no rookie inserts, this product suddenly has NO BREAK VALUE FOR ME!!

Can anyone please confirm if this is true!! Has anyone heard this and can Upper Deck please get off its behind and let the Hobby know what is going on??

If this is true, I will not be breaking ANY of this product this year!!

I see the same thing...but i would think it is a mistake (just a guess) and in the past they have had rookies in the subsets...maybe someone can call UD and get the low-down

The Cup always has rookie inserts!! It is part of the reason that I feel I can break cases.. I can always recover a little bit of the investment because some in the Hobby cannot afford a Crosby Rookie at 12000.00 but can pay 700.00 for his Honorable Numbers from his rookie year and still have a nice auto patch from the player's rookie year..

The Break Value is what allows me to break as many cases as I do, without the secondary market a breaker like me is screwed, I cannot afford a 70% loss on my investment.. I always expect about a 25% loss which is acceptable for me.. Not anymore!!

I was wondering if the checklist was complete or not. Like you, I couldn't imagine this product without rookies included in the insert sets. I am curious about your thread title...are you saying that this was Upper Deck's intention and for that reason it is a screw up - or was the intention to include the rookies in the insert sets, but they have been left out due to some type of screw up at Upper Deck?

Honestly I do not know the answer!! If this was planned then it will be a disaster for a breaker like me!!

If it was not planned and they goofed like they have in the past causing all kinds of delays ie. O pee Chee Premier!! then it is also a mistake but one that can be fixed, but just annoying as the product will be pushed back until it is corrected..

or This is just a HUGE mistake as far as the checklist goes and then the world is back to normal..

Either way, I need to know as the funds I have set aside for the break will be used for other things..

This has to b a mistake by Upper Deck as they must of had every intention of putting the rookie inserts into the product..

Well then as I mentioned there was no inserts that I was aware of, obviously I was wrong. My apologies for that.

As for you expect to lose only 25% of your investment? Whatever cases your opening send them my way.

Maybe I have been lucky the past two years, but on average that is what I have had.. Some cases were worse and some I actually made money on, overall the last two years the loss has been about 25% for me.. Mind you, I break when the product is released, not 6 months later.. Wait that is a lie, I do break 6 months later, just not on the same volume and yes the % is higher on the negative side..

I can't imagine that being correct. Although if it is, I think the real RC's will hit astronomical numbers. Imagine if Carey Price only has 130 total cards from the Cup?! (99 RC's, + 31 Golds).
I would think they'd be going for $7-10K each! I know it sounds crazy, but I have to think that's what they'd be going for out of the gate.
