07/08 THE CUP MASSIVE SCREW UP AT UPPER DECK WHO WILL BREAK NOW
Quote:I can't imagine that being correct. Although if it is, I think the real RC's will hit astronomical numbers. Imagine if Carey Price only has 130 total cards from the Cup?! (99 RC's, + 31 Golds). Sorry, I cannot agree with the pricing, even if the numbers are reduced, who is going to pay 7-10K for Carey Price, NOT ME!! I love Price and am a huge fan, but when I can pick up an Ovechkin the cup rookie for 3500-4500.00 after his Hart trophy win, why would I pay 7-10k for Carey Price?? I do agree with you Paul that the price of the rookies will gain value because of the limit but no where near to that extent!! My opinion only, I have been wrong before.. Either way, it does not help me in wanting to break this product when it comes to recovering cost.. A nice kopitar Limited Logo was selling between 300-500 last year, can you imagine a Toews/Kane Limited Logo from this year!! No I cant, because it is not on the CHECKLIST!! Regardless Paul your point is valid, I just don't agree with the High value on the rookies.. |

Quote:NO ROOKIES included in the insert sets... ie. No Carey Price Honorable Numbers, No Johnathan Toews Limited Logos, No Nicklas Backstrom Scripted Swatches!! Actually this really sucks for me, cuz most times I can't afford to spend the money on the rookie cards from this product, but I love going after the inserts, especially of the rookies, I know they are not rookie cards, but they are auto/patch from the rookie year and if u like collecting new players like me the inserts of the rookies are the best part of this product, hands down... Looks like I can cross of the Cup from my chase list this year.. Way to go Upper I mean Lower Deck!! |

I honestly kind of like it better not having any extra rookie inserts mainly because they dont list them as real RCs! It just seems the market gets so flooded! But I do like to chase of extra cards and how they can be cheaper! It just sucks they arent considered real RCs! But for my Ryan PC lets hope there is not a ton

Remind me again what rookie inserts were in Superlative?
Not like it stopped people from breaking that mediocre BIG TICKET product like it contained the Cure For Cancer or Golden Wonka Tickets or anything. |

07/08 THE CUP MASSIVE SCREW UP AT UPPER DECK WHO WILL BREAK NOW
Quote:Remind me again what rookie inserts were in Superlative? Well my concern is not in breaking a tin or two, with Superlative a lot of tins were broken but it was not a product in which I was going to break 10/15 cases.. The issue I have is if anyone can confirm the checklist, is it an omission on the checklist that no rookie inserts were produced or did Upper Deck goof up and not include any ROOKIE inserts into the product.. This is important for me as the Rookie inserts, especially the nice ones are considered case hits and if they do not exist then the cost of breaking is not worth it and basically takes the enjoyment out of breaking a product I had waited a while to break.. I believe it will also effect other larger breakers who will be afraid to lose their shirts on not getting any kind of return on the product.. Again any info any one can provide is greatly appreciated. |

Upper Dreck has the ROOKIE CARD PRESS PLATES From EVERY UD issue this year and are inserting them in the Cup.
That means there will be 4-5,000 1/1 rookie card press plates available. Happy now??? |

khabby Wrote:Upper Dreck has the ROOKIE CARD PRESS PLATES From EVERY UD issue this year and are inserting them in the Cup.Wow it did not take long for this thread to turn into the usual UD bash. The OP has brought up a huge valid point. If for some reason Price, Kane, Toews, Backstrom and other notable rc's are not included with these insert sets like Signature Patches, Limited Logos, Honorable Numbers etc.. This will hurt case breakers big time. Some collectors always state, well I am going to chase singles instead of breaking tins any way. Well, Some posters seem to always forget, that us breakers enable you all to chase the singles you want to go after. I was planning on breaking close to an entire Pallet (120 Cases) of this product with another board member. He is now reconsidering doing this break, since it will make the overall break that much harder. NONE of us breakers, break product to make money. We all know that is an impossible lost cause. Having said that, with less chase cards or case hits as we call them, this product has become less desirable for us to break. I am pretty sure this is the message the op was trying to get across. I agree with him, UD needs to explain this one. If somebody says UD owes us no explanation on this possible omission, let me say IMHO they do. As many as you already know, I broke well over 100 (6) Tin cases last year, alone. I know for a fact how these rookie auto inserts help with regard to the case break and attempting to recoup on the amount of money these cases cost us. I have tons of collectors I deal with, that chase these cards b/c they either can't afford the CUP rc's to 99 and in some cases just prefer these cards more. So before I start another Huge Break and commit serious amount of funds to this product, I would like to know how these lack of case hits cards will be replaced in this product. Thanks to OP to bring this to our attention! |

Quote:Upper Dreck has the ROOKIE CARD PRESS PLATES From EVERY UD issue this year and are inserting them in the Cup. Are you happy with 4/5000 press plates? I think my point is being lost, perhaps it is my fault for not communicating it properly.. My point: I love breaking the Cup, usually 10/15 cases = cost 20/30,000.00 Can I afford a loss on the entire sum = NO. We all have a budget, some larger then others ( not because people cannot afford it but rather they have other things they would rather spend/save for) I have a range of loss which I am willing to accept, usually around 25/30% In my The Cup Breaks over the last two years what has SAVED my cost were the rookie inserts, selling at 200/500 a card, that helps greatly in deferring the cost of breaking such a product.. The 05/06 The Cup Honorable Numbers of the Rookie Class saved my cost, last year it was the Limited Logos of the Rookies that helped a lot.. Why Rookies? well mainly because they are new to the league and bring in more followers, Upper Deck bases each product around the rookie class of each year.. In the end all that is being stated is that I am now afraid to break a product which will cost so much but will now rely only on the rookie cards and PRESS PLATES to drive the secondary market as far as the ROOKIE CLASS IS CONCERNED... Scary because people who cannot afford or choose not to spend a 1500.00 on a rookie card of one player but rather 200/300 on the great inserts is now out of the equation.. Will these people suddenly fork over 1500.00 for a rookie card?? The answer NO ONE KNOWS and that is what scares me from wanting to break the product!! Again thank you for the comments and any info on verifying the omission of the rookie inserts would greatly be appreciated.. Fawad. |
