Sooo happy my gf's friend wanted to eat at Harry Caray's tonight.....
sorry if this should be filled under the column of "who cares", but just got home and am still excited.....but anyway was dragged out tonight for dinner, and after severel "dont cares" in regards to where we ate - i was told we were going to Harry Caray's (across from Wrigley)
so we go in to eat, and i see that Ernie Bank is there signing....and to top it off he was essentially signing for free as you only needed to buy a ball or t-shirt and he was willing to sign....so I got an autographed baseball for $20, inscribed with "MR CUB" and also got to meet him.....so like i said i'm still excited and feel very lucky also wanted to share just to say how great a guy Ernie Banks is.....the line took a while, and it wasnt because there were alot of people, but because Ernie was actually taking time to talk to every person - i was floored that he was there signing for free, and then taking pictures, chatting, etc., etc.....from my perspective a true class act, and great ambasador for baseball and the Cubs (and forgot to mention "Woo Hoo" was there too, but didnt get his auto lol) Sorry for the long read, and didnt have a camera with me for a pic :doubt: but it was probaly the best time i ever had going out for dinner |

You have a camera on your cell phone if you have one, right? I met Ernie when I was like 14 or 15 and he was sitting chomping on Nachos talking to fans asking about the next great pitcher to come up---his son, Willie Banks.. .....Ernie still is a nice guy though.

(sarcasm) I heard he was going to be there and I was going to go but I thought "hes there for publicity purposes and probably won't be signing, so why waste my time." I heard he was supposed to be there because hes now the president of some Cubs fan club. I live 5 minutes from Wrigley! Im pissed. haha. :| ... but thats awesome that you were able to get his autograph! He always seems like a great guy and this is the first time I've heard of him making a public appearance (other than his statue debut) in the last 2 years. Hopefully he'll do a show signing soon. |

well here's a pic of the ball at least
![]() and aikmancollector8 sorry you couldnt make it and like i said i had no idea what was going on, so im surprised more people wernt there if it was publicized. They said he was signing till 10, but they actually cut the line off a couple minutes after i got in line (why i really feel lucky as i was last, until they let a kid come in behind) and that was at 9 Now that you mention it i saw alot of people with "mr cub" buttons and a logo and stuff, so that may be the fan club thing....he was there with like 5 others, and i had just figured they had eaten and were watching the game and he was nice enough to take the time out to sign - either way still great on his part |
