Malking back to Russia!!!???
While he stated last week he wasn't gonna be asking for a lot of money, or a 10 year contract. I think it's just a ploy to to make the NHL or the Pens give me more than what they are thinking of giving him. Now that Hossa seems to be headed else where and Malone might be a tight fit, they will have to do something quick.
As stated he did leave Russia in a hurry to come to the NHL, you can't see $12.5 making him want to go back as I am sure if his play continues he will end up killing that number in just advertising alone

Didn't he go back to Russia during the last offseason? Why wouldn't they take him into custody then? It was pretty well known he was going back as he missed the NHL Awards Ceremony.

Where's all this "russian mob is after him" bull comming from? I'm sure him leaving didn't cost them anything and I'm sure they won't risk world wide publicity in killing a 21 year old kid.

Apparently he was forced to sign a contract "under diress" at 3 am...and "back in the day" when they were communist, the Russian mob would sometimes hold a player's family hostage if the player did not return...there's a lot of crazy stories about defection that are truly fascinating...

I do recall, it had to have been quite a few years ago, that a Mettalurg Magnitogorsk (Malkin's former team) player was shot and killed, but I don't recall if it had mob ties or not...

He had to sneak out of there, he's not going back to play there just two short years later...he may very well have risked his life to come play in the NHL, I don't think an extra $3 or $4 million (on top of $8 million) is worth going back for...in my line of reasoning, I would figure that after the first 4 or 5 million, they would all kind of start to look alike...but, I've never been rich before...

I agree with this statement. No doubt he is just trying to make sure he gets the most $$ possible out of the Pens. He is staying in the NHL.....no way he'd go back IMO.
