OT: COngrats to the Best Rapper Alive!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright. I have to step in.
My 2 best friends are Rap fiends, and as much as I dont listen to rap on my own time, I constantly hear their rap debates. The best rapper alive is far and away Jay-Z, followed by Eminem. Lil Wayne is garbage. Anyone can write what he raps. |

Say what you want. Numbers Sell and Yes I am a Huge fan of Em. Hands down my favorite rapper but If Weezy is soooo garbage and Rap is so garbage how does this man sell a Million records in a time where we can download music for free? WHy is he on almost every song? WHy? WHy? Why? Theres obviously gonna be haters but for lil wayne to be in the rap game for 10 years strong now and for him to sell the way he does, he gets no credit. Say he's garbage, say he cant rap. THE NUMBERS DONT LIE

Real rappers don't sell a ton of stuff because they are good and don't try to be corporate bs. I got a lot of respect for a rapper named murs. I worked a show of his and i saw him talking to people after the show. A kid comes up and says " Damn those are nice shoes" He looked at him and said...."You want em?" The kid looked stunned and said, well sure! Murs took off his damn shoes and gave them to the kid! Thats being humble and knowing where you come from. Its not about the bling. |

Say he's garbage, say he cant rap. THE NUMBERS DONT LIE JayZ has been going 19 years strong. 50 million albums sold worldwide. 7 GRAMMYS and 25 GRAMMY nominations Lil Wayne has only 3 Grammy nominations...goes to show the QUALITY of his music I dont care if Lil Wayne sold 2 million in the first week, he will never ever ever ever in a MILLION years be mentioned on the same pedastal as Jay or Eminem or Pac etc. He targets the masses: the lower class who enjoy catchy, repetative lyrics. JayZ is a more sophisticated rapper with lyrics that lil wayne could never think up, which will obviously lead to lower sales because sophistacated rap listeners respect his lyrics more and thus appreciate his music more than a 16 year old who goes to a high school dance and gets down to "Lick me like a lollipop." Must I go any farther? |

This is bringing something kinda OT in, but on Radio Bam, Bam Margera always says how death metal is by far the hardest to play and takes the most skill, yet only sells 1,000 copies if they're lucky. Just because something takes skill doesn't mean its in demand. Simple loops are what catch people's ears, so why wouldn't artists put that kinda stuff out?
And for the record, Weezy is VERY lyrically inclined, but he knows what sells and what doesn't - there's a reason you don't hear Canibus every weekend downtown. Strategic use of lyricism goes a long way - you don't use that when you're making a club track like Lollipop. Its nuts to judge a rapper off his club single. I still think Em would roast Weezy in a battle (IMO he coulda beat Big L even), but Wayne's no slouch lyrically - go find the original version of "A Mille." |

afa you givin up dat spa dra dra dra drap it like it hot...
yeah, i guess i'm not with the majority. i think lil wayne is pretty terrible....along with quite a bit of so called 'talent' out there in ALL the major music genres... jeez, no matter what these 'stars' want to call themselves, they are, generally, 'pop' stars (but don't call them that cuz they ain't sell outs) |

How can you talk about the greatest and never bring up the greatest.
![]() Also, every time someone purchases a single itune or something of that nature it counts as one album. So if someone buys three sings it counts as three albums sold. It's much easier to sell a million albums in today's genre when a person with a laptop can purchase music at the north pole. |
