Good stuff so far. I do agree with Schmidt as #1. No Brooks Robinson love though?

David Wright isn't the best third baseman in his state.

Alex Rodriguez

A-Rod is a SS turned 3B...he spent more than half his career as a SS.

He is at third base for the rest of his days.

Surely when all is said and done, Alex Rodriguez goes down as a third baseman.

1,272 games at short, 693 games at third...yeah, he's a third baseman. And so is Cal Ripken Jr.

And if he plays 9 more years (Isn't that what will be left on his contract?) and averages 100 games at 3B per year, he will have 1593 games at 3B. Maybe then he will go down as the best 3B AND the best SS ever.

Schmidt, and why?, Childhood hero, Franchise Hero, Dominant Offensive and Defensive player. Is there really anything else there is to argue?

IMO, Mike Schmidt and George Brett are the 2 best ever. ARod has played too many games at SS for me to classify him as anything but a SS.

But, by the time he is done, that will probably change.

sportscardroyalty Wrote:I believe if you spend your career playing two different positions, your original position is your legacy. Especially in A-Rod's case, he didn't even want to play third but was forced to because of Jeter...he goes down as a SS, JMO.

As of right now, he has almost two TIMES the amount of games at short...and who is to say he won't play short again? I'll bet he goes to the Hall Of Fame as a SS...
