Europe after Andris Biedrins
"The Contra Costa Times' Marcus Thompson reports that several european teams are interested in Warriors center Andris Biedrins, and are said to be in hot pursuit of the unsigned big man.
Russian teams are said to be willing to offer Biedrins, a native of Latvia, somewhere in the neighborhood of three- to five-year deals worth about $10 million per season. And Thompson speculates that the best offer the Warriors will throw out there might be six years and $48 million. It's possible the exodus of Josh Childress from the NBA might get the Warriors to up the ante, but it's also possible that Biedrins could continue the trend of solid NBA players bolting for Europe. And if it happens, Ronny Turiaf, Al Harrington or Kosta Perovic might be starting in the middle for Don Nelson. " First Childress- is Biedrins next? What's up with international organizations throwing money at NBA talents? Here's a link to the article http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2008/07/...to-europe/ |

I suspect its more of a negotiation ploy as opposed to anything more than an outside possibility.
It makes sense if you look at it. Biedrins and his agent see other guys go to Europe. Perfect time to play the overseas card for the contract with the Warriors. I think the W's are lowballing him a bit, which could have induced this story. But in the end, he's going nowhere. I don't think even our FO is stupid enough to let him go. |

If our economy continues to sink into this hell hole, I would not be suprised if major NBA talents get plucked by European teams. The value of our dollar doesn't compare to the currenies abroad and players would get paid more there than they do over here. Biedrins is asking the Warriors for 12 million per year from what I've heard...sheesh |

It probably has more to do with the Euro being so much higher than the dollar right now. I can't do the math but they offer say 20 million Dollars, but in there currency its really like 15 or 12 Million, so they are getting a discount. Plus its probably tax free and you get all kinds of other perks.
Its the same reason why Budweiser sold for a bunch of money to a foreign country, because they were getting it cheaper than they ever could. You'll be seeing it all the time in Bball, and soon other sports. |

If he does this the Warriors are in serious trouble. In my opinion the Warriors could be a 3-4 seed in 3 or so years. Not without a Center.
