All Star Voting - Does Something Need To Change?
In Milwaukee, a decent-size story is brewing (pun intended) regarding Ryan Braun being 6th in the NL's All Star voting for outfielders. The only player above him in the top five that deserves the spot is Alfonso Soriano. Checking the stats of the others (Beltran, Fukudome, C. Lee, and Griffey) this point can't even be argued well as they all are well under his production level.
So I ask, does something need to be done with the way All Star Voting is handled? It seems every year this happens more and more, and it is always written off in the discussion somewhere. All Star appearances directly impact the path into the Hall Of Fame as it is often used as a springboard when measuring the great players of all time. What's going to happen when a player like Fukudome retires with 9 All Star appearances two of them being warranted? |

Nope.
Its the same every year... and will the the same next year. People vote for who they want to see.... Managers put in the guys most deserving.... and every year.... 1 or 2 players are snubbed. |

Nope. Its a game for the fans. Fans pick the starting lineup regardless of whether the players deserve it based on stats. The rest of the team is put together on merit. There has always and will always be players deserving of a starting spot that end up coming off the bench. There will also always be a handful of guys that get "snubbed" that you can make a case for no matter what the voting format. Nothing really needs to change. It works.

The best solution is to not have the game at all.

Back a few years ago.... say Sammy Sosa only had 12HRs and was batting .242.... but got voted in. Now Would I complain when I see Sammy Sosa face off against Randy Johnson?? Nope.... thats what I wanna see. |

It was really fun watching it as a kid too... waiting to see Doug Jones emerge from the bullpen as your team's lone representative... only to be disappointed when he didn't get the call... but I digress, it was still fun. Now, I certainly don't think it should have any bearing on home field advantage. Just because one game ended in a tie... that was a huge overreaction and I think is one of the biggest gaffs made in baseball under Selig. |

Mccann:
AVG: .307 HR: 12 RBI: 38 391,592 votes Soto: AVG: .288 HR: 11 RBI: 42 594,309 votes How does Soto have that many more votes? Mccann, IMO, is having a better season. On a different note Soto is a rookie at age 25. Mccann is 24 and already has 2 all star appearences. |
