I like Volstad....the BMB seems to be in love with Price.

Who Are Your Current Top 5 Pitching Prospects?
1. Madison Bumgarner -- take a look at the success of other pitchers that averaged 10+ K/9 at A ball at 18 years old.
2. Trevor Cahill -- What would happen if Fausto Carmona and Francisco Liriano had a baby? Trevor Cahill.
3. Brett Anderson -- Last year he looked better than Cahill, but he's still much better than Wade Davis, Jacob McGee, and just about everyone else.
4. Jaime Garcia -- Sick numbers, and nobody cares...yet.
5. David Price -- If he increases his K/9 rate (which I think he will) then he moves up to #2 or even #1, but right now there are at least 3 other pitchers in A+ that are putting up much better numbers than Price, and they're all at least 2 years younger.

Obviously you haven't seen the David Price - Vandy highlight reel. The kid is the real deal and is amazing!! He's the #1 pitching prospect for a reason.

To add to the discussion:

1. Price
2. Tillman
3. Porcello
4. Volstad
5. Arrieta

I've seen a lot of David Price's highlights (not his Vandy highlight reel though), but those are "highlights" for a reason and everyone has a highlight reel. But the numbers aren't there yet. I have plenty of reasons to think he will be very good, and his college numbers were very impressive, but if his numbers don't improve, he shouldn't get the #1 spot when others are outperforming him at a younger age.

Also, what are your thoughts on Arrieta? I've seen his name tossed around a lot, but don't see the numbers supporting the ranking.

I can think of one guy, of whom I have never heard mentioned on this board who I would consider. Edit: Now I've noticed him, but no discussion. Excellent.

The stats argument for Price and Porcello is ridiculous. Both have shelved their knock out pitch (slider) in favor of working on the change and other pitches. Porcello has been especially impressive as a youngster in the FSL without his breaking ball. They are both the top 2 pitching prospects easily.
