It is all about hype. It seems to me that in the last 3-4 years people are prospecting more in football like they have been doing in baseball for years. People are just looking to cash in on the next big thing. I dont do it but maybe I will when the Hawks get a top 5 pick and draft someone who is "Next":d

With the exceptions of the players that get on the path to all times greats such as Brady, Manning and Tomlinson, almost every single high draft pick will never maintain the values they were selling at as rookies and you can grab the exact same cards a few years down the road for considerably less.
If you are trying to be a completionist collector this makes things more difficult as some cards will only show up as the products release and then disappear completely, but if you just pickup what you can afford, you will surely be able to still grab pieces later on for less. Whenever my team drafts a hyped 1st rounder, ala Bush, I completely ignore his stuff. My Bush collection will flourish about 3 years from now at pennies on the dollar compared to 2006. |

Agreed. But I can't afford to be one of them. Unless a rare Carter comes up for auction that I've been looking for. Than I can splurge a bit. There's no way I would pay the going rate for any AP's though unless I REALLY had more money falling out of my butt than I knew what to do with. |

I am a huge Vikings fan and had close to 10 AP autos. How many do I have now? 0! I just dont see the point I traded for all of mine but 2 which I pulled. Will I ever have one that I will keep yes, but that will be awhile
