Autograph grade cost
Can anyone please explain why the cost for an autographed card certified through a company (topps, UD...) through BGS is only $2.00 /auto. However an autograph that you are getting authenticated to grade just the autograph is $30? That is a $28 difference. Personally I just don't understand why the cost would be so high? Does anyone else agree here or am I on my own? Thanks

I collect Marcus Allen! Link below to my BGS Football bucket but I have plenty of other cards as well in other folders and not in bucket. Shoot me a PM on anything.

RE: Autograph grade cost
If the auto is certified by the card company, then Beckett isn't authenticating it, they're just grading it. If it's an in-person auto, they then authenticate it before grading, hence the higher fee.

You can always pay to have BGS "doubly" authenticate an auto that is already certified, but that seems silly to me.

I get the authenticity charge. But grading just the auto is not $2 / autograph like a regular submission. So why not charge $2 to grade the auto like the other service? So there is a charge to authenticate the auto but another huge charge to grade the auto. Does that make sense?

There is not a "huge charge to grade the auto". There is a charge to authenticate the auto. To be honest, I don't know why they won't grade an auto that isn't authenticated, but I would assume it has to do with the idea that if the auto is graded, then it is assumed to be authentic and if BGS started grading forgeries, that would look bad on them.

If you have other questions, your best bet would be to contact a sales rep from Beckett, they will be able to explain things so much better than me (hopefully).

Cheers,
