Agree with this since you will buy exactly what you REALLY want.

I don't get the rush/thrill of opening packs that some people do.

Why do people get a thrill/rush for gambling in other venues? I don't like going to a casino, at least with cards I get something I can give to my nephews or friends (commons of teams I don't like) or can sell the hits of and recoup some of that money. But, I am slowly converting to just buying some singles of stuff that I want and only buying a retail blaster every once in a while to keep from breaking down and buying a full hobby box. My last big box purchase was 2 boxes of 2014 Topps where I got a Manziel jersey and auto (which actually netted me 80 bucks when I sold them together LOL). I also bought boxes and stuff there for a while to get stuff to trade with other people on here. Just because I didn't get what i wanted I was able to get some pretty nice stuff by trading for it with what I got in the breaks.
