Box Breaks
Beckett is selling boxes to break at the $70-$80 dollar mark. It mentions there are a few graded cards and such. Has anyone had any luck with these breaks? What's the consensus?
I collect Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr., and Philadelphia Eagles autographed graded cards!

Nvm, see what your talking about, thought you were talking about actual wax boxes. Here is osme reviews for it so far, not looking good lol.

That answered my question and then some. I hate buying boxes and packs but LOVE the anticipation of what I might find. It's really a love/hate relationship and those ratings don't even qualify for a casual flirt.

It was on some advertisement I got via email or maybe stumbled onto it navigating the site. Anyway, I got my question answered and I hope that Becket improves their track record with those high dollar items. Testimonials are huge and it's not really looking good for prospective customers. Had they been Great reviews, I would have gladly invested...but not so much anymore. The reviews have me, at best, highly skeptical.

Saw this also.......some nice stuff can be hit but I wouldn't count on it. I got the same Adv plus it's on the home page.

Which is really sad. I'm a PR pro and the testimonials that were shared with me were detrimental to the point that I doubt I'd take a chance regardless of how many good testimonials were profiled. It's like betting on an ebayer with a 95% rating...I don't want to be the unlucky one out of 20.

From a business perspective, I don't know why Beckett doesn't make the boxes more lucrative. The cards and slabbing are paid for as a business expense and are written off from the corporate taxes at the end of the year. It doesn't make any sense, from a brand building perspective, why you'd gamble your company's brand equity over a $70 to $170 item. By not guaranteeing at least a card equal in BV, Beckett forfeits the chance to provide its customer base with value added. For example, a voucher to get a card graded for free if you slab four others. This is simple reputation management, or lack thereof. In the grand scheme of things, Beckett is damaging its reputation with its publics and, I'm just assuming, that those posts weren't answered by a Beckett social media relations specialist to mitigate the lack of business by me, and most likely others, who were initially intrigued with the idea.

I just realized how long this became. Like I said, I'm a PR practitioner so I can write forever.

I would take eBay feedback with a grain of salt. I myself have 1 negative on my account from when I upgraded my graphics card in my computer and sold my old one. I shipped it and USPS apparently played a pickup game of something with it and the box was pretty much ripped in half from the picture he sent to me. This was apparently my fault according to eBay and he didn't want to deal with the insurance with USPS so eBay refunded the full purchase to him from my paypal. Then to top it off, guy never even sent it back, when the only thing wrong with it was a fan was rattling which could have been fixed easily by someone with knowledge(myself). AND he left me a negative feedback. So, I wouldn't read into feedback too deeply. Some people are like the person I described and give you a negative for no reason and things completely out of your control. This was a $350 item at the time I sold it I should mention. So I took a $350 loss and got a negative feedback. /endrant

That's what I've been complaining about with SBay cards and their Super Boxes. They control what's being repackaged, so why make some boxes so horrible. At least make them worth close to the $150, right? Some of them can be over the top huge monster hits to entice people to buy them, but why screw over your customer base and alienating them from ever buying from you again?

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.

Bingo! The only entity being damaged is Beckett, not only from lost revenue, but their brand is hurt in the long run. Once a brand's reputation is compromised, it typically costs 3 to 4 times more than a generic reputation management budget. In my line of work, we label that as Crisis Communications. It doesn't sound much like a crisis to the average Joe, but on the larger scale, it will reflect in Beckett's profit margin and ability to grow.

I recently applied to Beckett as a freelance writer and offered to be a full-time copywriter for the company. They have my resume if the company believes I can be an asset with Public Relations. I'd love to see this company succeed because I've been a fan for 25 years and I have a few cool ideas that would appeal the their target audience, like what I outlined in the last post.

It's sad for me because Beckett is losing a golden opportunity to really strengthen their brand for mere pennies on the dollar. Negative feedback is like a bad case of herpes. It always comes back to bite you when you think it's finally gone away.

Ebay feedback is subjective and if I'm dealing with someone, I always check their negative ratings. I get that negative rating happen when they're not deserved. I received a neutral rating from a customer because the champagne flutes I shipped were delivered with half of them broken. That's not the feedback I look for. I want to see what response was left to gauge the character of the seller or buyer. When I was left negative feedback, I replied stating that the customer received a full refund since the product was not as offered. It was a chance to salvage my reputation people like me who look to do business on ebay.
