Grading is Expensive

Grading is Expensive
I have been buying BGS graded cards online because it is so much cheaper than sending in my own cards.

For example, I would like to submit some of my higher end cards. But just sending in 1 card (for example my 1986 Southern League All Stars Tom Glavine card) would cost $49?!?!? $28 is shipping alone? $10 for insurance? That's insane... are there other options for grading on a budget. I can't swing that for one card.

How does anyone afford that?

RE: Grading is Expensive
Yeah group subs like our esteemed colleague above pointed out. It's ballooned recently in cost, possibly getting ahead of the economy and not catching up. I'm not an economist, just a grouchy consumer.

The only way a cost per card submission is low enough anymore is at the 100 card submission point to get $7/card. But that means spending $700. Not many private consumers have time or cash for that.
