2013 Topps Five Star Silver Rookie Auto Set /25
2013 Topps Five Star Silver Rookie Auto Set /25
Let me start off by saying that I'm not a big Topps fan. Since I seriously started collecting in 2006, I have tried to do one big auto rookie set from each company.
I tried Triple Threads. After 2 years, I was bored because it all looked the same. I tried Chrome. Though popular in the hobby, other than going to on card autos, it always bugged me that it was essentially a 'shiny' version of the base Topps rookie with different colored borders (often hideous) with poorly centered images.
Last year I thought I'd give Topps Museum a shot. Unfortunately, it came out shortly before Five Star. I did not want to spend a fortune on the 2013 rookie class by going after National Treasures, especially with my experience (going back to 2007, 2008)in the past with poor resell dollars. I figured Five Star had worked out the kinks after a few years.
I was wrong.
It's a thick card with a thin piece of jersey/patch that looks almost the same as Museum and Finest. Also, there are a lot of irregular and ink bubbles in a lot of the signatures which are all on card.
There were 40 cards in the rookie set. I have 33 in hand. I'm not overly excited about it, but I will try to finish it in the next month or 2. I thought I'd share the images since I'm normally associated with Certified and haven't shared anything in a while. Overall, I'm not disappointed that Topps is leaving football. I miss Upper Deck and their innovations, but I remember why they are only college cards now.
Hope you enjoy these......
I'll post the final seven when I find them at a reasonable price. Still need 2 of my Steelers, Keenan Allen and Tavon Austin (+ the other 3). Let me know if you have any available in your possession.
