Sure I like the retail parallels too but mostly prefer the serial numbered ones.
PC=Giancarlo Stanton, Kemp, Longoria, Tulowitzki, Griffey Jr, Pujols, Jeter, Randy Johnson, Helton, Biggio, Bagwell, Chipper Jones, Votto..
I trade for similar cards.

RE: Opinion on Parallels
Very nice collection. Just wait til the mini's and update add-ons come out! Personally I like parallels, though they have gotten a bit carried away. I don't mind so much that they are the same picture. What bugs me more is when they use the same picture for completely different products or inserts.

I've added 2 more since this pic and am still missing 3 that I know of plus plates. Not to mention the minis that were just released and Chrome that is coming soon.... It is getting a little out of control but it is a hell of a challenge chasing these down.

Imagine if there were multiple versions of the 89 UD Griffey or 86 Fleer Jordan. I don't think they would be as cool with red, orange, purple, and gold versions. Or even with refractor and super factor versions. But there are times when I do like parallels that are not overdone, such as 97 Bowman Chrome refractors.

I don't like them.
They exist because nobody puts complete sets together anymore but rather individual players or maybe teams. They need to produce many card variations of the same player inexpensively to get people to buy the cards. Just changing colors makes it easy. If we just needed 1 of our favorite player we wouldn't have to buy many packs.
If they have to exist they should be different photos as well as colors. Then they would be worth chasing.

I have a great idea. Raise box prices! :/

RE: Opinion on Parallels
How about changing something to the bio portion on the backs of parallels? The whole idea of parallels are the same image on the front with a different color/effect. A different back with perhaps a different bio or stats would be a nice improvement, perhaps tie-in some of the new sabre-metric stuff, quotes from different teammates. There are plenty of ways to make parallels more palatable to collectors other than changing border colors and stamping a number on them.
