finest cards turn green

finest cards turn green
Has anybody else experienced their topps finest and chrome cards changing colors? I have a bunch of finest cards that have turned green and topps chrome cards that the players face and arms have become discolored to almost a pasty white. The cards have been kept in top loaders and in a cool space, one was even in a graded bgs slab. Can anyone help me figure what has caused this and if there is a solution, i have lost a bunch of cards in basketball, baseball and football due to this. By the way some cards still had the protective plastic on them and some didn't, they still chsnged color, hope i get some help.

That is a very common issue. I don't think there is anything you can do about it once it has happened but I don't know for sure. I believe it is caused by prolonged exposure to light and or humidity.

i recall seeing a few posts related to this on the forums. do a search for green/faded finest and see what pops up. i think one member tried to claim that his green spotted card was unique and therefore more valuable...

RE: finest cards turn green
I opened a box about a month ago and a lot of the cards had a green hue. I think it is pretty common among early Finest.

It happens. There are lots of suspected reasons why, ranging from storage (humidity, sunlight) to issues with the chemicals used in the printing process. I've also opened an entire box of green cards (1994-95 Finest Series 2).

RE: finest cards turn green
I can understand the humidity factor as I live in Florida and some were in a closet with no ac and could get hot but then there are others that were kept in a cool dry dark area and it still happened, I think it is the chemicals and over time a breakdown occurs, basically all the cards will eventually change color, I just know the catalyst that helps it along. In Topps chrome the faces become a pasty white, just the skin tones turn color then rest of the card looks good. Unfortunately the cards are now worthless and don't look good, Its a shame because I even had BGS graded cards turn color, there is nothing that can protect them. So if you have mint older finest snd topps chrome cards that have not changed yet and they are valuable be vey carefull.

I am typically a fast shipper and I ALWAYS use Delivery confirmation. Sometimes I forget to provide the number.

Not only was he convinced, i recall him becoming very upset at members that tried to tell him otherwise. I think he was trying to push it as an error card and therefore of special value. His Stockton looked like the Hulk.
