I think my card money may be gone now.

When you think about it, $520 ($20 x 26) isn't bad as long as you stay away from purchasing high end packs. With a little luck and the right focus, can get alot of enjoyment out of the hobby. My problem is with trading and supplies...sometimes that eats a large part of the budget up..........

Like, I'm currently dreading the upcoming/next fight we have coming in the next few days.

I actually tried to contact Gambler's Anonymous once about it, and the lady basically laughed me off the phone ... she was like, "Baseball cards? That's not really gambling ..."

Then I tried to go to therapy for it ... $15 a pop, co-pay ... third session in the guy was like, "Have you tried just not buying cards?"

At that point I was like, man, this $45 I've wasted on this a-- hat would have covered two blasters!

Plus, like, I've seen all the responses from the newlyweds, with the agreed-on budgets with the spouses and what not ... that is all fine and dandy while you guys are still in the honeymoon phase and you're sticking to it, but JUST WAIT until you eff it up a few times ... which you will ... just trying to be honest.

I think what I may do is take $50-$100 a pay check (get paid twice a month) and either save it or spend it however I wish amd just limit my self to that. Im also slowly getring into selling cards. One guy on here menrions buying cheap and flipping it. Ive considered this as well but not sure on the best way to go about doing that.

My wife thinks anything I buy (cards, comics, CDs, etc) is stupid while anything she buys (jewelry, clothes, shoes, etc) is a necessity Smile
Men are from Mars, Women are from a different universe Smile

Once, When she asked why I don't stop buying cards, comics, CDs, etc, etc I told her that I was buying this stuff waaaay before I ever met her. I never hid the fact once we did meet, and she was fully aware of it prior to our marriage, so she better deal with it.

When we had kids, the spending had to be severely curbed, but you'll learn to prioritize as you go along. My family will never go hungry or homeless because of my hobby. My 401K might suffer at times, but not my kids Smile
Yeah, I swore after I pulled my Harper auto out of a 2011 Bowman Chrome blaster at Target that I was done forever, because I would never top it.

It was the Holy Grail, the Covenant Card that I had been mystically searching for forever.

That lasted all of two weeks — on a stupid blaster of 2011 Bowman Draft, of all things.

The problem is, you bust when you're hot ... because you're on a streak ... but you also bust when you're cold ... to get out of a slump.

Card companies are like casinos ... there's a reason they're still in business.

If it was really, really easy to do, wouldn't we all be doing it? Smile
It's easier said than done.

The house ALWAYS wins!! Remember that.
It IS a form of gambling ... a game of chance, if you're doing it for the big $$$$ cards. If you switch to just collecting for the sake of buying cards, amassing a collection, and it's not about the $$$ cards, it's not as daunting a task.

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.

True ... I've been tempted to become one of the "singles" collectors ... but it seems about half the sellers and traders can't figure out how to put a card in a penny sleeve without snowing out the corners, and it really kills my buzz when I get it ... pulling my own are much more fun (and dangerous, as we've established).

Slippery slope everyone has to a disastrous fall. You need to stay calm with the hobby.

Depends on how you work your marriage. My wife and I have an understanding that bills get paid first including groceries, then 5-10% goes into a savings account that we dont touch except for emergencies which both of us must agree to its an emergency, then we take the rest and divide it in half. That way she has hers and I have mine. You dont complain what she gets and she cant complain what you get.

One thing to remember in marriage its 50-50 not 10-90 or 90-10 if you want your marriage to last

Granted since this past September I havent bought much of anything because of me being an executor which took most of my free money away from me to take care of the estate but I hope that to be over in December and back to buying cards and to usual for me
